Paving Job in Osceola Completes After Four-Week Timeline

The 4.9 miles of paving on Highways 16 and 81 near Osceola finished on October 23 after a four week effort. Workers and engineers reportedly felt emotional at completion as the project neared acceptance though final approval awaits.

The Annual County Meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary convened in Shelby at the U B Church on October 19. County Chairman Mrs John Lucas presided with District President Mrs Novak and Polk Unit led initiation. The Lutheran Church schedules a Thursday 9 a.m. woodcutting bee at Carl Cederberg’s home with dinner provided by the ladies. Harmony Society activities pause for a week. Unusual Accident Wrecks Sandine Oil Station West of Osceola

A gasoline transport truck driven by George Kyser of Bellville Kansas jackknifed and crashed into the east side of the Sandine Oil Station five miles west of Osceola on Highway 16. The impact caved the wall and toppled the building from its foundation. Mrs Sandine and her young daughter were at the station and frightened. The stock truck involved remained undamaged. Damages are around $100 to the station and the transport.

Temperance Day and community notes from Greens Chapel

HACKBERRY Temperance Day will be observed at Greens Chapel next Sunday. The Ladies Aid will meet this Thursday October 28 at the church with Mrs Ester Bergren and Mrs D E Powell as hostesses. Victor Club met Tuesday afternoon at Mrs E E Gabels near Osceola with fourteen members, two visitors and seven children. The Family Christmas was the lesson topic. An apron pattern session drew interest. A special meeting is planned for November 5 with Mrs Rex Brigham to discuss her summer trip. Victor School closes Thursday and Friday. Mr Albrecht goes to Omaha and Miss Burke to Lincoln. Gravel has been laid on the three miles of road past Greens Chapel linking gravel roads. Visitors from Annesly and several local families were entertained at various homes through the week. Several social and travel notes involving Osceola Stromsburg Gresham York Fullerton Aurora Shelby Loup City Arcadia and Omaha residents are listed along with weekend visits and plans for Halloween events at the Stephenson home.

Osceola lost a one sided game at Exeter Friday 34 to 0 after an early pass interception for a touchdown. Exeter then scored at will as Osceola appeared to lose heart. Tuesday Osceola defeated Shelby 13 to 0 in a fast well played contest.

The Cemetery Association will meet at Community Hall on Friday November 12 with a covered dish lunch and all members are urged to attend to arrange lunch service for the Louis Hester Sale. A funeral for Walter Mills was held in Westerville after his death from a kerosene incident. Under the 4 H Flag county film show set for November

County Agent F B Kelly announced a two hour 4 H entertainment unit at Osceola High School Auditorium on November 10 starting at eight. The program features an all talking version of Under the 4 H Flag plus a 4 H news reel an educational short Hidden Values and a cartoon. Admission is free and the event aims to boost 4 H interest and pride statewide. A county attendance contest offers $2 000 in prizes with the top county receiving $1 000 for 4 H activities.
