City to Foreclose on Delinquent Osceola Real Estate

Osceola to begin foreclosures on several tracts due to unpaid taxes dating to 1934. Past summer saw similar actions with properties sold to taxpaying buyers. Polk and Stromsburg officials report better tax compliance and stricter personal tax measures are being considered to recover long overdue funds.

Dr Elwood to Leave Silver Creek for Government Service

Dr L W Elwood plans to close his practice at Silver Creek and move to a government post as camp surgeon in the forest reserve and CCC camp at Halsey Nebraska late November. Friends regret his departure but wish him well and he intends to sell his practice to keep local medical services available.

Edward Larson, a clerk at City Grocery and Market, was bitten on the leg by a large tarantula found in a crate of bananas. He received first aid from Dr. Westfall, and despite severe pain, continued working. Six spiders were later found in the banana case and killed.

Contracts Awarded for Polk School Refurbishment

Bids were let for the Polk County school district No. 72 project with York Mill & Sup ply Co. winning the general contract at 18796 dollars. Edward Rodwell of Omaha secured heating plumbing work for 3840 dollars and Edward Fuehrer of Central City the electric contract at 733.41 dollars. Government approval and bonding are required before work begins. Local labor to be used when possible and a government director will oversee construction.

Emma Johnson Dies at 90 in Stromsburg

Emma Dedrickson Johnson died at her Stromsburg home after a stroke. She was 90 and a Polk County resident for about 45 years, living with daughter Augusta Slusser. Survived by three daughters, three sons, a sister, funeral Thursday at Evangelical Covenant Church Stromsburg led by Rev. Simon Carlson.

Annual Farm Bureau Meeting Set for Osceola

Polk County Farm Bureau will hold its annual meeting on Tuesday November 9 in the Legion Hall Osceola with a 10 a m start. N W Gaines state extension service speaker from Lincoln will give the main address. All farmers and friends are invited a basket lunch will be brought coffee served free. The meeting date is earlier than usual due to a time change in Organized Agriculture events at Lincoln.

Ben Zedicher was released after minor surgery by Dr. Alliband. Mrs. Glenn Sack of Shelby was admitted for several days under Dr. Schroeder. Mrs. Eric Erickson of Stromsburg received medical care at the hospital and was patient of Dr. Anderson.

Fairview Riverside Club meets at Mrs. Duke home

Fairview Riverside Club met October 28 at the home of Mrs. C L Duke with most members and several visitors present. The group discussed The Family Christmas menus and Christmas favors and gifts. A covered dish lunch followed a supper at the Hall was well attended.
