Osceola to begin foreclosures on several tracts due to unpaid taxes dating to 1934. Past summer saw similar actions with properties sold to taxpaying buyers. Polk and Stromsburg officials report better tax compliance and stricter personal tax measures are being considered to recover long overdue funds.
Mass Virginia Croisant daughter of Mr and Mrs Albert Croisant near Shelby and Kenneth Bernt son of Mr and Mrs Julius Bernt of Shelby were married Wednesday October 27 in Clay Center Nebraska County Judge Henry Vauck officiated The couple attended by Mr and Mrs Howard Moser of Osceola The bride a 1935 Osceola High School graduate wore gray with black accessories She has worked at the First National Bank in Osceola The groom a Shelby High School 1936 graduate is a bookkeeper at the Bernt Service Station They will reside in Shelby with the bride remaining at the bank and the groom returning to the service station
Mrs. Peter Nelson aged 83 died October 31 after a brief illness following a late summer Illinois trip. Born Matilda Danielson in Sweden in 1854, she had 12 children, 30 grandchildren, and one sister surviving. Funeral at St Pauls Osceola with Rev Melin.
Local groups schedule meetings with Greens Chapel Brotherhood and P T A at Victor and Fairview school. Bazaar planned for December 3. Numerous residents and visitors from Hackberry, Stromsburg and surrounding towns are noted with travels, family visits, illnesses and community events.

Highlights include Horace Mann study, Constitution focus, Armistice Day observances, a Friday afternoon pageant, and various demonstrations by grades and departments culminating in the instrumental finale Stars and Stripes Forever from the High School.
Dr L W Elwood plans to close his practice at Silver Creek and move to a government post as camp surgeon in the forest reserve and CCC camp at Halsey Nebraska late November. Friends regret his departure but wish him well and he intends to sell his practice to keep local medical services available.
Local residents headed to Nebraska Indiana football game, with Stromsburg delegation list led by H Christen sen and family. Evangeli stic meetings began at Stromsburg Baptist Church led by Rev Gust Carlson. Mayo Clinic visit for Paul Moore followed by travel to Lincoln for family, Osceola hospital treatment for Mrs Eric Erickson, and a large Hunsaker property teardown to build two new houses. Sixty delegates from Stromsburg Women’s Club attended the Polk County convention.

Edward Larson, a clerk at City Grocery and Market, was bitten on the leg by a large tarantula found in a crate of bananas. He received first aid from Dr. Westfall, and despite severe pain, continued working. Six spiders were later found in the banana case and killed.
Bids were let for the Polk County school district No. 72 project with York Mill & Sup ply Co. winning the general contract at 18796 dollars. Edward Rodwell of Omaha secured heating plumbing work for 3840 dollars and Edward Fuehrer of Central City the electric contract at 733.41 dollars. Government approval and bonding are required before work begins. Local labor to be used when possible and a government director will oversee construction.
Emma Dedrickson Johnson died at her Stromsburg home after a stroke. She was 90 and a Polk County resident for about 45 years, living with daughter Augusta Slusser. Survived by three daughters, three sons, a sister, funeral Thursday at Evangelical Covenant Church Stromsburg led by Rev. Simon Carlson.
Osceola and Stromsburg face off next week in the Armistice Day gridiron clash at the high school. The rivalry hinges on will to win, not past records, as Stromsburg seeks its first win this season and Osceola must boost its resolve to defend the tradition.
Polk County Farm Bureau will hold its annual meeting on Tuesday November 9 in the Legion Hall Osceola with a 10 a m start. N W Gaines state extension service speaker from Lincoln will give the main address. All farmers and friends are invited a basket lunch will be brought coffee served free. The meeting date is earlier than usual due to a time change in Organized Agriculture events at Lincoln.
Ben Zedicher was released after minor surgery by Dr. Alliband. Mrs. Glenn Sack of Shelby was admitted for several days under Dr. Schroeder. Mrs. Eric Erickson of Stromsburg received medical care at the hospital and was patient of Dr. Anderson.
Fairview Riverside Club met October 28 at the home of Mrs. C L Duke with most members and several visitors present. The group discussed The Family Christmas menus and Christmas favors and gifts. A covered dish lunch followed a supper at the Hall was well attended.
