The fall term opens with one of the heaviest dockets in years. There are 45 civil cases and 5 criminal liquor appeals. Most civil suits stem from failed county banks. Jury calls to begin in the second week, starting November 7, with Judge Hastings of David City presiding.
Notices of residents at home and visiting relatives include Mrs. Crouse at her son Lloyd Crouse’s farm east of town for the winter, and numerous trips by patrons to nearby towns. Activities cover church classes, hunting trips, social gatherings, and state politics with Senator Perry Reed discussing county agent change and various tax and sterilization laws.
Local sports notes report Victor beat the Liberty team 26 to 165 on Friday afternoon. Community socials include a Brotherhood gathering turned pound social for Rev Powell and family, plus multiple visits and parties across Stromsburg, Shelby, and Osceola with pheasant season outings and club activities noted.
Miss Martha L Gabriel daughter of Mr and Mrs John W Gabriel married Henry F Ebel Jr of Bellwood in a double ring ceremony at St Andrews Catholic Church on October 19. Rev J A Welk officiated. The couple's reception followed at Ellers Hall and they will reside on a farm near Bellwood.
After a long Friday hearing that stretched into the night, the mandamus action by remonstrators against the county agent's continuance remains undecided. Judges Landis and Hastings presided and briefs were requested with a decision promised for today. The ballot outcome remains uncertain with a probable appeal to the state supreme court.

Local trips included Dale Watkins to Lincoln and Claude Umshler’s navy transfer.
Miss Eleanor Pett spent the weekend with relatives at Clarkson enjoying familiar surroundings and family company.
Clarence Clarence Heitzman Robert and Richard Heitzman were in David City on Thursday. Clarence Reitz of Holdrege visited his mother and relatives. Visitors at W B Duke home included Mrs Wm Lohr Melvin Van Alstine and Mrs Clair McCormick from various locales. The festival at the hall Friday drew smaller crowds but netted a neat sum. Sunday visitors at H A McCormick home included Mr and Mrs Lou Collier of Silver Creek and relatives from Shenandoah Iowa. Paul Robinson of Stromsburg dined with John Koehler. Irvin Deeter and four Omaha friends joined the gathering. C O Carlson and Wm Dake attended a Grand Island cattle sale Monday. Ragnar Carlson hosted dinner with C O Carlson family and Peterson family of near Benedict. Norris Smith of Curtis Nebr and Rev Maxcy and wife stayed overnight. Sunday they left for Fayette Iowa. Land returned home Wednesday. Miss Martha Headley and Fay Beardsley wed Monday Oct 17 in Grand Island. accompanied by LaVerne Fredrickson and Robert Myers of Benedict. Mrs Ansel Frederickson hosted a miscellaneous shower Monday for Fay Beardsley. Young People's Class at Swede Plain church held a party Wednesday at Orlie Adelson home. Pleasant Hill Mission Circle met at Mrs Oliver Johnson’s. lunch served by Mrs Fred Johnson and Mrs Oliver Johnson. Miss Irma Rhoades of Benedict visiting Frank Bolton home. Mr and Mrs Roberts of High Prairie left for Lincoln for State Institute. Miss Lavina Holm at State College Kearney returned home for a few days.
The New York World Telegram reports a new cabinet post to be created by Governor Roosevelt if elected President. Alfred E. Smith would head a role combining budgetary officer and federal coordinator to manage finances and reorganize departments.
West Side residents Mrs Arthur Larson and family joined Swede Home Ladies Aid for a Wednesday tea at the Rev Sward home. Mr and Mrs Joe Kralik and daughter visited Oliver Adelson's home in Stromsburg after weekend travel. Miss Adeline Fredrickson spent two weeks with cousin Lucille Anderson in Grand Island, ending an informal rural social period.
Next Sunday at the First M E Church features World Temperance Day with a Sunday School lesson on temperance and an Epworth League session at 6 30 led by John Inness. At 7 30 three speakers including the pastor discuss Prohibition and Citizenship Education and Religion. Mrs R J Inness reads The Legend of the Twilight Bell and a male quartet sings. Plan to attend the full program from 10 Sunday School to 11 preaching.
Rivols announces new weekly program changes starting this week. The cinema will show motion pictures on Sundays Mondays and Tuesdays and on Thursdays Fridays and Saturdays. The Ak Sar Ben Players will perform vaudeville and stage shows each Wednesday night.

Rain forced postponement of the county husking contest from Wednesday to Saturday October 29 at 10 a.m. Ernest E. H. Anderson will open nine husking lands on his farm for contestants. Nine entries listed include Otto Daum Clarence Coffin Kenneth Monson Frank Kutzer Earl Bond Ernest Mathews Walter Pierson Gordon Mace and Engelbert Gabel. A lunch stand will be on site and three prizes for the fastest huskers are displayed in Osceola.
County sends five finished beef steers and 19 fat barrows from 4-H clubs to the Aksarben Stock Show in Omaha from October 29 to November 4. County Agent Kelly aims for first prize in a 25 entry field, backed by past top finishes of 18th 7th and 4th. A $25 prize plus $75 expense allowance funds the county exhibit, aiding 4-H activities without tax money.
Mr. and Mrs. Ace Tyrrell hosted the Kill Kare Klub dinner and bridge on Friday night. The roast duck dish came from Mr. Tyrrell’s hunting trip. Dr. and Mrs. C. R. Collins attended. High score went to Mr. and Mrs. Don Byers, second high to Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Kirtley. The Byers will entertain the club next month.
