The school board plans to move into the Jeffrey School District grade building during Thanksgiving weekend, about four weeks away. Contractors expect most work finished, with minor tasks and kitchen completion pending. a dedication is planned for early December.
Calvary Lutheran Church in Swede Home will hold a Reformation Rally on Sunday October 28 with a service starting at 7 30 p m.

The Sacred Heart School and convent in Shelby were dedicated last Sunday October 21 officiated by Rt Rev Msgr Francis A OBrien V G Father Anthony E Egging of Grand Island preached on private education The $76000 project includes six classrooms a recreation hall and kitchen in the school and a four Sister convent with living and dining spaces The opening enrollment is 89 pupils About 35 priests 75 sisters and 300 attendees took part and Bishop Kucera sent a greeting unread due to illness
Royal Neighbor Lodge plans its fourth district convention at Odd Fellows Hall on Tuesday October 30. A banquet will be served at noon at St Vincent Church following the meeting.
Brownie Troop Number II held their second meeting on Wednesday October 17 in the Lutheran Church basement. Janice Fischer was elected secretary and Barbara Bennett elected news reporter. The group discussed a Halloween party and plans for the coming month with Mrs. Bernie Gissler as leader and Gerry Bowe as assistant.
Approximately 160 friends and relatives called at the home of Miss Lillian Brown Sunday afternoon to honor Mr and Mrs Le Roy Brown on their 25th wedding anniversary. Those attending from a distance were from Kearney St Edward York Waco Utica Seward Lincoln Gresham Shelby and California.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Norton of Washington DC arrived Saturday morning for a three week visit with their parents Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Norton and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Grossnicklaus and other relatives and friends. Mrs. John Mills and Danny of Omaha departed Sunday for home after a two week visit with the Mills families.
Polk County savings bond chairman E C Nordlund reported September sales of Series E and H bonds at 27444, totaling 423844 for January through September and reaching 57 percent of the county goal. Nebraska statewide E and H bonds for nine months hit 5422598 with 76 percent of the 99.5 million yearly goal reached.
Walter Wesley Lewis 39 years 9 months 14 days died of a heart attack at Rocky Mountain Hospital Denver near Clark Nebr area he was born January 2 1917 on a farm near Clarks Neb and lived with uncle and aunt Wesley Ward after parents deaths he married Norma Bennett in 1937 and had two children Walter Ray and Carolyn Joyce survived by wife Norma son daughter brother Edwin of Osceola and many relatives Funeral at Washington Park Community Church Denver officiated by Rev Richard E Halbert and burial at Crown Hill Cemetery. Mr and Mrs Edwin Lewis and Mrs Lulu Ward traveled to Denver for the funeral.
Mr and Mrs Richard Malek of Phoenix Arizona announce the birth of Laura Jean on Wednesday October 17. The infant weighed eight pounds two ounces. The Maleks have three other children a boy and two girls.
Mrs Harry Rodene and Bonnie and Michael Stromberg were Thursday afternoon guests of Philip Nyberg and daughter. Mrs Alma Fjell of Stromsburg is spending a few days in Osceola with her son Joe and family.
Osceola earned its second win of the season by beating Genoa 19 to 6 on their home field last Friday. Carlson set up the scoring with a 10 yard keeper, Swanson added a 20 yard TD run, and Ransom returned an interception for a TD. The team showcased a stronger ground attack as the next game against Silver Creek looms Friday November 2.

Robert Cole, stationed at Norman Oklahoma, returned home last Wednesday to spend two weeks with his mother Mrs Helen Cole and family. He will report for duty at Whiting Field Florida the last of next week.
Elsie Czapla and Martin Kaczor wed at nine in the morning October 8 at St Rose of Lima. Rev Micek officiated with altar boys and guests from Osceola Genoa DeSota Columbus Duncan and other towns attending the double ring ceremony and nuptial mass. The reception followed in the church hall for about 100 guests as the couple plans a farm life north of Osceola.
Daisy Dairy and Clover Leaf 4 Hyugh clubs will meet Friday October 26 at 7 00 in the IOOF Hall basement for an achievement meeting and supper. Gary Garey will show slides and Wilber Bloom of York will speak.
Polk county may be certified by the State Survey Committee as a disaster area for federal aid to support foundation cattle and sheep herds. If approved, farmers with definite need may receive grain and hay through the Farmers Home Administration or ASC. The temporary program ends December 31 unless renewed, with county action by FHA board.
The first idle acres payment checks under the corn acreage reserve program were mailed from the local ASC office this week. Payments are issued by precinct as tabulations are completed, with all checks expected to be issued this month. Office inquiries will slow processing, says ASC manager Lee Campbell.

Miss Alice Fox, 82, of Burbank California, died Saturday after residing in a rest home there. She taught school in Polk County and later worked in insurance before moving to California forty years ago. She was sister of the late Mrs. A. A. Gray and S. B. Fox of this city.
