Auto demolition drive to clear junk cars in Glenoa area

Residents urged to bring junkers to Homer Hastings property southeast of Glenoa starting in November. Auto crushing will visit Stromsburg first, then Hastings site. Pre registration advised through local agencies and The Record office. Wreckers and trucks needed. raffle prizes planned to encourage participation. Community notices also report local travel to Florida and Wyoming for military and family events.

Auctioneer marks 41 years as top selling showman

Osceola auctioneer Dick Merrick begins his 41st year calling “Going. Going. Gone!” after a 1928 start with brother Alvin. Werth Construction Co. owner dies in Omaha

Alton A. Werth 54 owner of Werth Construction Co. in Stromsburg died unexpectedly Sunday in Omaha. Services were Wednesday at Salem Lutheran Church Stromsburg with burial at Hampton. Survivors include wife Margerie, mother Mrs. Henry Orth, son Gerald, daughter Judy Flower, stepson Larry Hansen, stepdaughter Ginger Hansen, and three granddaughters.

Homecoming Royalty Crowned At 1969 OHS Ceremony

Kathy Hayes was crowned Homecoming Queen and Evan Wieseman named King during half time ceremonies concluding the 1969 OHS Homecoming. Attendants included Pam Snodgrass, Joan Cerny, Eddie Wieseman, and Leo Potter. Floats won by F. H. A. Tweed first in Group 1 and Junior Brute second, Group 2 winners Old Spice Miss Lollipop Hawaiian White Ginger with first and second place in various grades.

California pair caught harvesting illegal marijuana near Stromsburg

Two young Californians, an 18 year old and a 20 year old, were arrested October 11 after county and state officers spotted them leaving a farm field south of Stromsburg. Farmers had observed them earlier and notified authorities by evening.

Engagement Announced for Anne Dunn and Martin Otte

Mr and Mrs Lewis Dunn announce the engagement of their daughter Anne to Mr Martin Otte of Gresham Miss Dunn teaches home economics at York High School Mr Otte farms near Gresham A December 26 wedding is planned. Police report no charges against the couple who were briefly held in Osceola on unrelated trespassing suspicions. The incident involved amplifiers found packed with weed substitutes and various tools. authorities determined the contents were field thistle blue lettuce horse weed and giant rag weed. The couple, traveling from California to New York, stated they planned to resell plant material but faced medical treatment after illness. Their custody status was later released with no charges filed.

Dance clinic visit to Omaha by local youth

Miss Donette Gabriel accompanied Mr and Mrs Herbert Kopetzky and daughter Barbara to Omaha on October 12. The group attended dancing under the Chicago National Association of Dance Masters Inc at the Fontenelle Hotel.

Osceola Fire Dept Installs Two-Way Radio System

The Osceola Fire Department completed installation of a two way short wave radio on its large pump truck. The radio shares the 399 frequency with the county sheriff and was funded by Firemen's Dance proceeds. All volunteer firefighters will be trained to operate the system, now in operation as of Monday October 22.
