Unsung heroines behind homecoming floats celebrated by boosters

Yearly homecoming floats rely on dedicated mothers who hammer, nail and craft the displays. The piece thanks the mothers, teachers and boosters in Osceola for their Patient work and endless energy. It notes the effort spans years as mothers raise multiple children. Also announced is Homer Fellows' 90th birthday open house at the Viking Center in Stromsburg on Sunday October 26 from 2:30 to 4:30.

Osceola Homecoming Parade Set for Friday at 2 PM

The 1969 Osceola High Homecoming Parade is scheduled for Friday at 2 p.m. Starting at the Osceola Library it travels to Co-op Oil, Bush's corner, McDonald's, then around the square back to the Hotel corner and schools. Fourteen floats have entered with more teams welcome. call the school to add entries and note planned floats by grade and group such as Miss Loli, English Leather, Evening in Paris, and Booster Club.

Purchasers at the John Monson Estate sale held on Friday October 3 at the Osceola courthouse are listed. Kenneth Monson acquires SW portions at $350 per acre totaling $56,000. Fernane buys NE and WS areas at $470 per acre totaling $? The Ferris property N E 12-14-3 (improved) sells for $494 per acre totaling $19,760. Osceola Bulldogs shut out Henderson 22-0 in home win

Osceola extends perfect season to 22 straight as Calvin Coffin rushes for 141 yards and a 94 yard TD. The Bulldogs block a Henderson fumble on their one and add two more TDs plus a 25 yard field goal. Osceola totals 244 rushing yards while limiting Henderson to one pass completion.

City hums on portable power project across Osceola area

Consumers Public Power District workers finish a 34 500 volt switch project to improve service for Osceola Shelby and nearby rural customers. Tremendous 1969 Harvest Outlook For Local Corn

Local farmers call the 1969 harvest outlook tremendous with bean yields at 35 to 40 bushels per acre and 10.4 percent moisture. Dry land corn estimates reach up to 100 bushels per acre while irrigated corn may average about 150. Milo harvesting stalls due to moisture, with early dryland milo showing 14 to 20 percent moisture and possible 100 bushels per acre. Overall quality and yield labeled very good to excellent by local elevators.

Two Osceola Residents Die Within Days

Mark H Gustafson 59 died October 8 after weeks of illness. Funeral at United Methodist Church Osceola October 10. He was Polk County native, worked in construction, served 25 years on Osceola Fire Dept and 15 years as Fire Chief. Albert W Gabriel 60 died October 8 at University Hospital Omaha after July illness. Funeral at St Vincent Osceola October 13. Born Platte County he farmed and later ran a Salvage business in Osceola.
