W. C. T. U. Meeting Held at Osceola
Polk County Convention of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union met at the Lutheran Church in Osceola with Mrs. John Falk presiding. Rev. G. A. Randall led devotionals. Miss Lulu Hendrickson gave the welcome. Miss Anna Freeman responded. Members reported encouragement. nine Polk, 21 Stromsburg, and 19 Osceola delegates attended. Osceola Union won the banner for most points in Efficiency. Officers elected: President Mrs Falk, Vice President Mrs I J Merrick, Treasurer Miss Lady Hendrickson, Vice Treasurer Miss Anna Freeman, Secretary Mrs Ruth Aker, Vice Secretary Miss Emma Anderson.

Lincoln Hosts Second Nebraska Traffic Safety Conference
The Nebraska State Safety Council will hold its second annual state wide Traffic Safety Conference on Friday October 31 1947 at the Hotel Cornhusker. EB P Tinker Jr says the meeting will review the safety program and set plans for the coming year with reports from six committees. Governor Val Peterson opens the morning session and Norman Damon VP of the Automotive Safety Foundation speaks at the noon luncheon. The event is open to officials, associations and others interested in traffic safety.

He noted rationing and permits for travel, abundant food but limited meals, and better crops locally than nationally. He said many foreign workers were in Sweden and that he would not stay there permanently. The voyage lasted ten days with seasickness limiting time on deck.

County Extension News Reports Farm Demonstration Plans
The last 1947 Septic Tank Demonstration at Carl Sundberg farm is in Stromsburg Osceola area with Arnold Dettmer and Donald Monson Vocational Agriculture instructors. Vocational students will observe handouts and forms from Polk County Extension to study home septic systems and project steps from dirt to completion. 4-H awards selections are announced and a county wide jamboree will follow with final awards. Clinton seed oats from Iowa breeders are offered at 2.50 per bushel, with limited availability. Polk County Home Demonstration Council met with 17 attendees and outlined 1948 plans and new officers. A Maple Leaf Club gathering included a covered dish supper and anniversary gifts for couples. County Fair premium checks are awaiting pickup at several Osceola locations.
