Open House At Carlson and Sons Draws Nearly 100 Registrants
Nearly 100 people registered last Saturday at Carlson and Sons Locker open house. Door prizes were awarded to Mrs. Arthur Scholz of Shelby for a six pound boneless ham, Roy Cramer of Stromsburg for three porterhouse steaks, Mrs. Ed Lewis of Osceola for five one pound packages of ground beef, Pauline Smith of York for three pounds ground beef, and Mrs. Boyd Berger of York for one pint fresh oysters.

Polk County Hosts Pony Express Relay 76 Ride
Polk County played a notable role as Ruth Lux Calvin Marak a seventh grader from Osceola school served as the second youngest rider in the National Pony Express Relay 76. The June 29 stop came at the Osceola fairgrounds with 600 riders overall. A scrap book will catalog participants for display at the Pony Express 76 Museum while local photos go to Polk County Museum for a Bicentennial exhibit.

Osceola High School defeated Stromsburg Vikings in Cedar Rapids in the first round of Goldenrod Conference tournament play. Sheryl Schott led with 12 points while Cindy Schott and Teresa Campbell added eight each as Osceola won in three sets 15-11 11-15 15-8 to reach the semifinals against the Polk St Edward winner.

Funeral services for Phoebe Morgan held at St Paul Church
Phoebe Morgan 94 died October 17 and funeral services were held Wednesday morning October 20 at St Paul Lutheran Church with burial in Osceola Cemetery. Surviving are two stepdaughters Fern Merrill of David City and Molly Kruger of Houston Texas plus nieces and nephews. She resided at the Good Samaritan Center.
