Queen hopefuls Kathy Hayes Joan Cerny and Pam Snodgrass were named 1969 Osceola High School Homecoming Queen candidates. The Queen and her attendants will reign over Homecoming events on Friday October 17.
The Selma O Carlson estate sold 874 acres in Polk and Merrick counties on September 30. Abart Bros. bought 394 acres in Merrick for $80 000, Donald Wolfe acquired 43 000 dollar Polk parcels, Ralph Simpson paid 94 160 for a Polk unit, Charles Raymond Stanton took 8 9000, and Orion Hanson with Kenneth Hanson secured 58 200 for another Polk tract. Total proceeds reached 274 260. Douglas Dunn leaves Oct 4 for Central and South America to study agriculture and economic projects in several countries returning for holidays.
Boy Scout troop 162 met on Monday October 6 where Alan Sipes earned First Class, Shane Conrad and Kevin Marsh Second Class, David Odgers earned Swimming Merit, Mike Smith Tenderfoot. One year pins went to Mark Dahmke Steven Johnson Billy Sterup. New members Mike Peterson David From Chester Graham. Mike Peterson transfers from Yankton SD as Senior Patrol Leader. Odgers and Sipes named patrol leaders Ricky Morris new scribe.
By proclamation Mayor Le roy Johnson designates Sunday October 12 as Knights of Columbus Sunday. The statewide recognition honors the 87th anniversary of the organization and highlights Polk County John F Kennedy council with about 105 active members.
Ralph Check of Fairbury Jr. College was wounded in a September 26 knifing in Topeka, Kansas after a football game with the Haskell Indians in Lawrence. He is described as the father of Mrs. Charles Gordon. Authorities say the gang and the game had no connection.
Osceola plans to move in a junk car crushing operation after Stromsburg using a local site at no cost to owners. A November date is targeted with cars transported to the site. UNICEF drive will be held November 2 by local church youth groups after a date change. Osceola Bulldogs Band earned a two rating at Harvest of Harmony in Grand Island. Henderson led Class C with a Superior rating amid a large field of seventy schools.
Funeral services for Glenn Dobberstein 26 were held at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Polk on Sunday October 5. He died after a tractor accident near Polk on October 2, with two wrecking crews extricating him. He was the son of Ed and Bernice Dobberstein and the only child. He was born December 8, 1942 in York and attended Polk schools, graduating in 1960, then worked in farming with his father. Surviving are his parents and three grandparents.
Sal Kobza a Shelby Nebraska native and husband of Kathy Bond was named soldier of the year on August 25 in Germany for the 11th Air Defense Signal Battalion. Spec 4 Kobza earned the honor for bearing appearance knowledge and performance of duties in the battalion headquarters company.

Osceola erupted for 391 total yards and six touchdowns in a dominant 39-0 win over St Edward. Five Polk County boys were forwarded to Omaha Tuesday morning September 23 1969 for induction into the Armed Forces. Two were volunteers Steven Herman Carlstrom and Robert James Brockevelt. The others were Arlette Delano Johnson Dennis Lee Anderson and Larry Ray Mentink. Inductees were to be forwarded to the reception center at Ft Polk Louisiana. Twelve registrants were sent for Physical Examination and another twelve were set for examination on October 28.
A girl named Kristy Lynn Bugbee was born October 2 to Mr and Mrs William Bugbee in Redfield Iowa. Paternal grandparents are Mr and Mrs Virgil Bugbee.
