Bee sting puts Cushing farmer in grave danger

Renard John Peterson born January 10, 1890 in Leonardville Kansas died after a long illness in Columbus. Funeral services were held October 11 at the Evangelical United Brethren church in Shelby with Rev. Paul Riggs officiating and interment in Shelby cemetery. He and his wife operated a variety store in Shelby before moving here for another family business.

Enumerator Positions Will Be Filled
The government will hire enumerators this fall for the sixteenth inventory of agricultural resources. Applications and tests are set for Saturday October 16 at Osceola courthouse. Selected workers will receive schooling at York and be paid on a piece rate, aiming for about 10 dollars per day. The test occurs in the commissioner room at the courthouse.

The ASC committee announced a 1954 corn price support of 1.56 in Polk County for farm stored corn grading No 3 or better. Ear corn in cribs nine feet wide with moisture not over 20.5 percent is loan eligible through Feb 28 1955 with monthly moisture changes to May 31 1955.
