Bids opened Wednesday night for 8 tenths of a mile from Highway 77 west of town to the Blue River. The bid total was $30,145.75 with engineering and incidental costs pushing the project near $35,000.

Butler County School District 70 pupils and teacher received an autographed copy of Corn Farm Boy from author Lois Lenski of Remsen fa. Workmen uncover large petrified clams at Ponca quarry
Workmen at a lime quarry one mile south of Ponca found two nearly identical objects they believe are petrified ocean clams, weighing about 150 pounds each. An unusual rock fragment was also discovered. The State Historical Society will be notified, the find fitting a theory that the continent once lay under water.

Neligh Considers Reservoir Upgrade Cost Near 35000
An engineering estimate presented to city officials last week shows that a reservoir and improvements to the main water system could cost about 35000 if Neligh voters approve the project. Officials said water improvements would be placed before voters. The plan envisions a 250000 gallon reservoir on high ground to replace an inadequate 50000 gallon standpipe and to restore pressure.
