Osceola Bull Dogs Blank Silver Creek 9-0 in Conference Tilt

Osceola remains undefeated in Goldenrod Conference play after a 9-0 win over Silver Creek. Len Adams broke through for a 40 yard TD and Nelson added the extra point as the Bulldogs defense and special teams pressure limited Silver Creek. Four defensive points and five Nelson completions highlight a strong Osceola showing. Next week Osceola travels to Shelton in a non conference test.

Polk County WCTU Sets October 13 Convention Agenda

The Polk County WCTU annual convention will convene October 13 at the Free Mission Church in Stromsburg starting at 10:00 a.m. The program includes devotionals, reports from county and local presidents, committee appointments, special music by unions, a temperance sermon, luncheon, memorial service, and election of officers with a closing benediction.

The Nebraska Game Forestation and Parks Commission announces open seasons and limits for cock pheasants ducks geese and brants effective September 30 1948. Cock pheasants October 29 to November 18 three cocks per day three in possession. Hen pheasants closed. Ducks October 15 until end of season with 5 daily bag limit and restrictions on wood ducks and mergansers. Live decoys and baiting prohibited. Federal migratory bird stamp required. Mrs Hilda Nelson to Be Buried Here

Funeral services for Mrs. Hilda Nelson 73 who died Tuesday October 5 will be held next Tuesday in Osceola at the Lutheran church with burial at Stromsburg. She died in Glendale California where brief services were held before shipping the body to Osceola. Her son Dave of Detroit flew to Glendale after her death. The family once lived in Osceola in what was known as the Claus Anderson property in west Osceola.

Large Crowd Attends Missionary Seminar and Rally

A large crowd from this county and nearby areas gathered at Osceola Methodist church last Thursday for a Missionary Seminar and Rally, one of five in the Hastings district. Rev Raymond L Archer spoke after sermons by Rev R E Carlyon, with Osceola youth choir, and films shown during dinner. Adults heard Constrained By Love, youths Look To The Ministry. Over 200 attended the evening rally, 90 at the adult banquet, and 70 at the youth cafeteria meal.

Robert Scholz Stricken By Polio In Lincoln

Mr and Mrs Martin Scholz were summoned to Lincoln after their son Robert an university student fell ill Wednesday and was rushed to Orthopedic hospital in critical condition placed in an iron lung. Mrs Al Willis and baby returned from a two week trip to California.

Tractor accident kills Polk county farmer Arthur Eberly

Arthur Eberly a young Polk county farmer was killed instantly when his tractor with a front scoop toppled on a slope and pinned him, crushing his chest. The scene was two miles west and two miles south of Stromsburg near the Blue River. He was married with no children. Neighbors lifted the machine and rescue was unsuccessful. The county extends sympathy to his wife.

James Dool Scott born February 13 1875 in Knox County Illinois died September 29 1948 at his Osceola Nebraska home aged 73 years 7 months 16 days He lived in Polk County Nebraska Kansas Tripp County South Dakota and Nebraska City Bennett Pell County and Osceola He was married to Laura Marie Johnson in 1907 and joined Lutheran Church later transferring to the Osceola Methodist Church He leaves his wife a sister Mrs I J Merrick and many nieces and nephews Funeral services were held at the Osceola Methodist Church on October 3 led by Rev G Hubert Underhill with Rev G A Randall assisting Interment at Osceola Cemetery
