Land Judging Contest Set For Osceola October 7 1975
The South Central Land Judging Contest will be held in Osceola on October 7, 1975 with about 350 participants from Hamilton Polk York Clay Fillmore Saline Nuckolls Thayer Jefferson Hall Adams and Webster counties. Co sponsored by SCS and Polk County Extension Service with help from the Upper Big Blue NRC and Natural Resources Commission. Master of Ceremonies is Don Sigler. Awards around 1:30 pm. Winners qualify for the State Contest in Butler County on October 29, 1975.

Free habitat plantings offered to rural landowners next spring
The Game and Parks Commission will provide free seed, trees and shrubs to rural landowners or operators for habitat plantings next spring. Bundles include cedar and ponderosa pine. a mixed bundle adds cedars, pines, chokecherries and American plums. An agreement to maintain plantings for 10 years is required, with hunting rights reserved by landowners. Applications due by January 31, 1976, or February 1 for district offices, on a first come basis.

Prize Appaloosas Shine at Nebraska State Fair
Harlan Rowan entered two prize winning Appaloosas at the Nebraska State Fair on Labor Day. Amigo Patrick, a gelding aged, placed third in trail among 29 entries. Amigo J. R., a 1975 stallion, placed second in halter in a class of 15. Patrick has been owned since 1970 and his dam foaled J. R. on April 4. both horses share the same sire.

Teresa Campbell reports on a Tuesday volleyball doubleheader where the OHS Bulldogs split two wins and one loss against the Genoa Orioles. Freshmen women were the only group to fall as Genoa rallied from a first-set loss to claim the final set. Lori Coffin led scoring with 11 points as Cedar Rapids had defeated the junior team earlier.

Spanish Teacher Plans To Build Language Program
Allan Marquart begins teaching career at Osceola choosing the town for its size and challenge of forming a Spanish program. He hails from Dakota City and graduated from South Sioux City High School and Wayne State College. He teaches three Spanish courses and two English classes, with his wife Connie and son Dana at home.
