A new ownership declares a policy for three county newspapers Shelby Sun Polk paper Osceola Record. Editors Celia Shaw Ruth Green will lead in Shelby Polk and Osceola with local editors guiding community wishes. The venture pledges civic promotion and a focus on the best interests of each town.
Former owner and editor W. J. Herbes departs for California after directing the Record for over twenty years. The note honors his hard work and influence, wishes him happiness, and notes plans for a westward move with his wife.
The Record lists five upcoming public sales. On Oct 4 Wm Matzen sells household furniture before the Corn Palace Cafe in Osceola. Oct 7 Alvin R Peterson offers farming equipment and 24 cows plus goods 44 miles north of Hordville. Also on Oct 7 Clothes Brothers sell farm equipment northwest of Shelby. Oct 8 Ed White and wife sell buildings and machinery northwest of Hordville. Oct 9 Wesley Johnson and Virgil Willits offer milk cows and machinery three miles south of Clarks. Noble and Merrick handle all but Clothes Brothers.
The Osceola Record will mail in the city on Thursday and deliver on rural routes Friday. The change aims to give more time for paper preparation and provide broader weekly coverage, including late news.
Three delegates from the National Farm Loan Associations at David City attended the 30th anniversary Federal Land Bank convention in Rapid City South Dakota last Thursday and Friday. Presidents Edward A. Swanson of Oscena and Ray M. Rerucka of David City and secretary treasurer W J Stead of David City attended among 200 Cooperative National Farm Loan Associations representatives. Delegates heard discussions on changes in the farm and ranch loan field since the cooperative land bank system began 30 years ago.
Working drawings for a new Omaha veterans hospital nearing completion show space for 500 general medical patients. The VA reports Omaha is one of 61 hospitals in varying design stages nationwide, with Grand Island also in early planning. Bradley says theatres and doctors quarters may be dropped to curb rising construction costs.

Osceola Public Schools near completion of a new addition that will provide a combined gymnasium and auditorium with about 2000 spectator capacity for athletics and events. The old gym becomes a vocational class space for welding, machinery repair, carpentry, and farm efficiency items.

Ethel Winifred Sack Hoffer Blake Sack was born in Polk County Nebraska on March 21 1904 and died September 26 1947 at Stromsburg hospital less than a month after her mother Winifred She was a Osceola High School graduate and worked for Nebraska Central Buildings and Loan Association before marriage to Glenn Sack on August 5 1928 They moved to the Blake farm homestead of her grandparents Surviving are her father Charles E Hoffer of Gresham brother Bruce sister Gladys Mason of Omaha nephew Charles William Metcalfe nieces Joan and Sharon Hoffer Funeral services were held at Wayland Church with Rev C F Wantz and burial followed in the Osceola cemetery.
The Osceola Legion posted banquet honored the local Legion Junior League baseball team for a successful season. Fourteen boys attended with Legion members. awards included Legion emblem sweat shirts, and coach Neil Hafemister received a pen and pencil set. The evening closed with bingo and a Yellowstone Park film.

The WCTU will hold a county convention Thursday October 9 at the Lutheran Church in Osceola at 10 am. An all day program is planned and a luncheon will be served at noon. Guest speaker is Mrs Ray Hunter of Guide Rock Nebraska. Public invited.
Osceola and Stromsburg battled to a scoreless tie on Stromsburg soil last Friday night. The Bulldogs outgained their bigger foe in most phases, with stout defense by Bernt Norton and Loeske limiting Stromsburg passing. Osceola intercepted two passes in the final period as the Deadlock held, peppered by a small crowd and spirited pep from the Osceola Pep Club.
Mr and Mrs C O Carlson and Robert Carlson traveled to Chicago to visit relatives. Joe and his daughters visited Columbus Saturday. John Voichaske and girls spent Sunday with the former's parents in Spalding Neb. Cecil Larson and son from Grand Island visited Silas Hoffer family and Wm Hansen of Silver Creek stopped by. Annetta Karges taught in Merrick county and attended a teachers institute in Central City. Dwayne Fox and sons of Osceola visited Joe Miller on Friday afternoon.
