W J Herbes and son Howard announce the sale of The Osceola Record The Polk Progress and The Shelby Sun to Perry Sapp editor of the Agra Kansas Sentinel. Sapp and wife will take possession immediately and publish first issue next week. Sapp linked to the late Frank W Boyd. Herbes previously owned The Record since 1926 and Polk Progress since 1934 and Shelby Sun since 1937.

Obituary of Ora A. Watkins of Shelby Nebraska
Ora A. Watkins born January 6 1880 in Fulton Illinois died September 15 1947 at his Shelby Nebraska home after a lingering illness. He married Elsie G Huddleston May 14 1905 and had two sons and six daughters. He lived in Shelby most of his life except two years in Colorado worked as a road builder and farmer served on the Shelby school board and was a member of MWA camp 5796. He joined the Methodist Church in 1916 and remained a loyal member. He is survived by his wife two sons and eight daughters, two sisters two brothers and fifteen grandchildren.

A Polk County farmer notes several Lincoln bromegrass certified by farmers who will supply seed to seed houses soon. They warn against carrying seed over, promise high germination and purity, and urge buying 1947 seed now before spring price increases. Former Methodist Pastor Rev. H. A. Taylor Dies in Nebraska
Rev. H. A. Taylor, longtime Nebraska Methodist minister in Laurel Belden and Coleridge, died September 16 1947 after heart attacks. He joined the Nebraska Methodist Conference in 1901 and served on key committees and as Grand Master of the I C C F Lodge in 1926. Survived by wife Edith daughter Helen Weeks and two granddaughters. Services held September 18 at Laurel church with interment at Forest Lawn Omaha.

Tragic Tractor Accident Claims Polk Boy
A nine year old Polk boy, Richard Wilshusen, died after being struck by a tractor on Immanuel Lutheran school grounds. Marvin Schultz drove the tractor toward a field when the boy darted in front. Witnesses, including other students, saw the incident. Rev. C W Long rushed him to a doctor. Survived by his parents one sister and one brother. Funeral services set for Brauer Mortuary Polk Thursday at 2 o'clock.

The former county superintendent of schools, who died in Long Beach, California on September 18, 1947, was born in Polk County and taught there before serving as county superintendent for several years.
