The Osceola Woman's Club will again conduct a Christmas Seal Health Sale to aid tuberculosis prevention and health education. Seals cost a penny each and the sale begins Tuesday December 4, with the committee asking broad community support to fund healthier homes and prosperity through disease defense.
Osceola and David City produced a hard fought game with David City scoring late in the second quarter and again after a misplayed punt. Osceola's defense intercepted passes and held the favored foe to two touchdowns while gaining a moral victory ahead of their season finale at Valley Thursday at 2:00 p.m.
A large Stoner Club meeting at Evelyn Richards home drew 26 members and 6 visitors. Alma Hansen was named president with Mae Scholz vice president and Hazel Randell secretary. Prizes honored quartet name Stoner Club Quartette. Lunch by Alma Hansen and Mae Hastings followed piano by Mr. Vincent.
Osceola football players traveled to Lincoln last Saturday with chaperones W. E. Thompson J. Carl Bryant I. D. Huston Dr. F. H. Oberg and F. B E Klein. They visited the State Capitol and Omaha area before Nebraska Missouri game then gathered at the YMCA to play and watch games. They returned home about 7 30 that evening and thank all who made the trip possible.
Harry Miller and two sons Archie Brazee drove to Omaha to bring home Miller’s daughter Wilma on vacation. Several families moved or visited Derby area events, including Merricks, Ransoms, and Scows. George Ransom welcomed a baby boy, first grandchild to Miles Ransom. Miss Betty Criss visits from Columbus. Schaal ill after stroke. Osceola guests at Royal Neighbor program. multiple weekend visits among Shelby residents. A baby boy born to Mr. and Mrs. Harry Snider. Dorcas Society and lodge gatherings reported.
The Juniors stage Oh Professor a three act farce in the high school auditorium on December 6 and 7. The plot follows a handsome man posing as a professor in a girls school with disguises and witty antics. Cast includes Jake the janitor Jay McDonald Miss Frederica Levina Herrmann Dr Aristotle Maurice Senn Jimmy Anderson Bob Larson Lela Dalton Opal Lierman and others. Do not miss the laughs and fun.
District No. 62 notes include travel from Missouri by Budd Vincent and Donald Willits, Grand Island visit by A B Toline and family, and Osceola birthday party for Mrs Ellen Moore on her 80th. Seven of nine pupils had perfect attendance. Jeannette and Wilbur Falk Irwin Forss and Phyllis Toline on honor roll. Irene Forss Jeannette Palk and Merle Vincent scored 100 in spelling all week.
Polk area notes describe the wedding of Miss Astrid Johnson and Irvin Larson on Thursday at Stroms burg with the Larson family in attendance. Other items include visits, moves, a business sale of Thesing Implement Shop to P T Wurtz, church events, and local social gatherings.
Walter Gee of near Columbus called on Julius Nebosis at his home. Students and Miss Rose Kresha staged a program and formed a PTA. Dance crowds were reported at Ellers hall with another dance planned. District 17 beat district 16 in kit 10 to 8. Kathleen Cockson and Berniece O Hare taught. Several visits to the Gabriel and Seberger families noted.
Dale Watkins and five pupils gave a fine program in District 40 while District 21 aired a program Friday. Mrs Clara Doerr of Viroqua spends weeks with Polk relatives and will head home. Mrs Sarepta Brigham visits Lyons with the Homer Brighams and plans to winter with her daughter. A collision near St Paul injures Fred Huggler and Tom Schmoker. Fred Cook and Ray Garner visit the Garner family in Osceola. Others visit, travel, or offer goods including stove wood, a new car purchase, and local social events.
West Side residents share family visits with Omaha Wahoo and York folks. Local gatherings include T W C Club and Country Club events with sewing luncheon. Thanksgiving travels, hospital operations, and a High Prairie program with lunch are mentioned along with multiple home entertainments and visits.
After Thanksgiving the Sunday School Board met to plan Christmas activities. Attendance remains strong with 190 at the last Sunday service though a few seats are unoccupied. District Superintendent Rev. B Johansen will attend the seven o'clock service. The Girl's Chorus of 17 voices will debut, with Betty Jo Carson and others named. Maxine Brooks is organist and Mrs Richard Brooks directs the program. Margaret McFadden will sing A Tree and a duet by Maxine Brooks and Betty Jo Carson, Knocking At the Door.
The GabaLots will meet with Mrs F D Mills on Wednesday of next week. Mrs W S Heitzmann entertained the Bridgette Club last Friday afternoon. Miss Marguerite Ienn was a guest. Mrs W O Hansen won the high score and traveling prize, and Miss Ienn received a guest prize.
Local social updates include visits by Stromsburg residents to relatives in Aurora Hordville Gothenburg and Franklin. A high school Girl Reserves play reads, a library talk, and Christmas preparations are described. The 1935 corn hog program outlines organization, base periods payments restrictions production changes and signing terms.
Mr and Mrs Lewis Herrmann celebrated their twenty fifth wedding anniversary on November 24 with about seventy relatives attending a dinner in the basement of the I O O F hall. A short afternoon program followed featuring numerous Herrmann and related families from Stromsburg Silver Creek and surrounding areas.
The Royal Neighbor Lodge hosted an open Saturday afternoon gathering with attendees from York, David City, Hardville and Shelby. Frances Torkelson, Supreme Manager from Lincoln, spoke. performances included DeLoss Buchholz, Marilyn Brown, Bess Shelmadine and Ruth Miller. A short play titled The Marriage of Martha Ann Turnipseed to William Obediah Pumpkineater preceded a quilt drawing won by Mrs. Albert Zang. Lunch followed in the basement.
Mrs. W. B. Dake is progressing favorably after an operation at Osceola Hospital last week. She is patient of Dr. R. L. Schroeder. Miss Elsie Kropatch of the valley had tonsil removal surgery at Osceola Hospital Tuesday morning performed by Dr. Harvey Eklund.
St Pauls Lutheran invites all for a Thanksgiving worship including the Midland College Oratorio Chorus. A free will offering supports the chorus and church activities. Sunday schedule lists Church School at 10 a.m. Worship at 11 a.m. Bible Sunday. Vespers at 7:30 p.m. Luther League hosts events. choir practice Tuesday. Ladies Christmas party Friday at 2:30 p.m. PAUL MELIN.
Westman and Meacham households visited in Omaha Saturday. Dinner guests at Guildford Bryan home included Heinemeyer and Meacham families. Florine Dunn stayed with grandmother Mina Buchta Sunday. McCormick and Dunn families shared six o clock dinner with H A McCormick. Mina Buchta hosted Calmar Dunn for Sunday dinner. Mrs. Wm Dake slowly recovers from surgery. Wisely family dined with Wm Wisely. Stanley Garver of Omaha visited John and Mrs McCormick’s home. Velma McCormick returned to Omaha at end of week.
