Osceola residents have waited to hear when construction on a new swimming pool will begin and provide winter jobs for local workers. The Omaha World-Herald reports that federal funding was expected but no details have emerged as of this writing.
Political jealousy and factional strife stall four months of WPA projects in Nebraska. Felton, backed by critics, aims to put 15 thousand to work by December 15. funds and red tape slow progress while accusations of building political machines swirl around Lincoln and Omaha. Comparisons show Nebraska allotments far behind states like Kansas and Illinois.
The Junior Class Play titled Hermit's House grows creepier with each rehearsal as characters sense eerie happenings. Tickets are available from class members or at the school for Friday or Saturday showings with thrills and value.
Genoa defeated Osceola 26 to 0 with a second quarter rushing TD set up by a hole made by teammates. Osceola’s standouts were Art Wieseman and Allen Herrmann. New Osceola players James McBeth and David Rutter appeared in the lineup, with Murray Crouse serving as game captain.
Miss Marguerite Tenn hosted the T. J. O. Bridge Club Monday evening at Mrs. H. M. Powers residence. Viola Cornish won the high score prize and Charles Hastings received the traveling prize.
Victor Club members plan a 1 PM luncheon at Mrs C W Hennings home on Wednesday December 4 assisted by Mrs Albert Blevins Mrs Russell Blevins and Mrs Norval Kirby. The Rebekah lodge held a regular meeting Friday night to elect officers. Edith Smith named Noble Grand, Mary Locke Vice Grand, Gertie Adair Secretary, Bernice Brown reelected Treasurer, Edith Giray not seeking reelection. Lunch by Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Adair followed. The Kensington Christmas party will be hosted by Mrs. Adair with date to be announced and will be a covered dish luncheon.
Wesley Chapel activity noted with pastor Rev Longacre calling on church friends. Local families share Sunday visits across Osceola Rising City Kearney and Bellwood while Brent McBeth begins teaching. Health and travel news include Louis Schott’s illness and J S Barr improving at Excelsior Springs Missouri.
Mr and Mrs I D Huston and daughter Kathryn go to Lincoln for Thanksgiving with Miss Margaret Huston. Miss Helen Huston of Kearney will also spend the day in Lincoln.
Mr and Mrs Alfred Thoren observed their 50th wedding anniversary with a family reunion dinner and reception last week. Married November 21, 1885, they have lived in Stromsburg for over fifty years. More than 100 guests attended the Scott Hall reception with remarks from Ludwig Rudeen Emil Swanberg John A Falk Eric Forslund and J A Seaberg. Rev S C T Ramsey presided.
Nathan Wilson arrives from Glendale to stay in Stromsburg for an extended visit as the Women’s Civic Improvement Club hosts a three act play by Junior Women’s Club members. Reuel Sword returns from Evansville after winning an Electrolux trip for top refrigerator sales. Henry Randell, Polk county pioneer, dies at 80 with services at the Stromsburg Methodist Church. He is survived by three sons and two daughters. Hea Thomas and Glenn Givens wed in Hastings with 35 guests. Stromsburg churches plan a Swedish Thanksgiving service at Eden Baptist Church Thursday at 10:30.
Osceola resident George L. Carson filed for the Polk County judge seat on Monday, the first office filing in the county this cycle. Only county offices to be sought are county judge and a southwest district commissioner.
The Polk County office of the National Re employment Service will operate part time. Mr Higgins from the Columbus office will interview residents in Osceola each Thursday. Extra hours may be added to meet local needs. county files remain in Columbus and residents may call at the Platte County Courthouse Columbus office anytime.
About forty five neighbors gathered at P A McCormick's farm with axes pitchforks and saws to help with hay riding fencing and woodwork. They served a noon dinner while Mr McCormick recuperates in a Columbus hospital from a broken hip expressing sympathy and support.
Examiner George H. Hill recommended denying KGBZ York renewal while granting KMA Shenandoah full time operation. Both stations share time, with Hill noting KMA programs largely serve public interest and some KGBZ offerings merit, but others harm public interest and policy.
Agricultural Agent Kelly warns Polk county farmers of a seed shortage for 1986 due to late corn damaged by freezing. With little 1933 seed and minimal last year’s crop, many will rely on this year’s harvest. D L Gross urges selecting sound ears now and drying properly in a shed or dry place for seed.
The Physical Education Department of the Junior Women's Club will meet Monday evening December 2 at the high school gymnasium. A five cent fine applies for missing the meeting.
Mrs Wm Ossian and baby Robert John left Shelby Hospital for home in south Shelby. Marion Thomas moved to Urban residence near post office. Mrs Archie Brazee visited from Omana for a miscellaneous shower with sixty guests. radio gifts and a trip to Omaha followed. Hattie Bennett celebrated birthday with handkerchief shower and King’s Daughters members attending. Schweigert family from Wewela SD visiting Mrs Lucy Dryden. Hope Circle met at Mrs Fred Kumpf’s. Oades family to Lexington for Thanksgiving. Various relatives and friends from Guide Rock Morse Bluffs Rising City Osceola visit Shelby. Dorcas Society quilting party at Mrs A L Lewis. DeLoss Buchholz and Chester Buchholz visited from Osceola.
The Stoner Club met with Lida Croisant and 22 members plus 3 visitors. A letter about the Republican Valley flood was read, and a comforter was tied for sending to the Omaha Child's Saving Institute. Officers for the coming year were elected: President Winnie Johnson, Vice President Winnie McKeag, Secretary Sue Cook, Assistant Secretary Vera Wisely, Treasurer Laura Hendrickson.

A Polk County notes roundups social visits and church events. Residents visited relatives in York Central City Stromsburg and Gresham while many attended dinners birthdays and a Gospel Team program at Grand Island. Rev Roscoe Bailey will join the Baptist Church December 22.
George Cremeen of Silver Creek and E C Hansen of Fremont traveling salesman for John Morrell Packing Company collided three and a half miles south of Silver Creek while turning into the Mull er farm driveway. Hansen’s Ford V eight went into a ditch and overturned causing front axle and fender damage. Cremeen Chevrolet lost a hub cap. No injuries occurred and Cremeen took responsibility for not signaling.
The Glee Clubs of Osceola High School performed a Vesper Service at St. Pauls Lutheran Church on Sunday at five in the afternoon. The capacity-filled program under Miss Ruth Miller included solos, duets, a sermonette, and a benediction by Rev. W. H. Wright.
Mrs Elizabeth M Tex 79 died at her Millard home after a brief illness. Funeral service Saturday at Hoffman mortuary chapel to St Columbskil church Papillion. Burial in St Mary Magdalene cemetery. Survived by four daughters Mrs E S Barney Mrs Frea Sanfeld Mrs Glenn Sommerville Mrs Kate Sibert and two sons Charles M Tex Henry J Tex.
The Osceola Women's Club holds its general meeting on Monday evening December 2 at 7 30 in the high school auditorium. The Literature Department meets in the afternoon at Mrs Joel Hansons home and Mrs J C Marquis will give a book review as part of the program. The music department will rehearse after the business meeting.
Mr and Mrs Roy Grossnicklaus visited in Omaha. Albert Gabriel and son from near Shelby called on the Gab riel home. Blanche Bernt returned home from the Gabriel home. Harmony Club sponsored dance at Ellers Hall with the Rythm Aces. Visitors included Alfred Bernt and daughter from near Columbus Frankie and Richie Tomasciecs Harold Nebosis and others. Lawrence Welk and MBC played in Columbus. Joe Seberger visited Omaha. Emilee Nebosis visited Roy Grossnicklaus. Mary Kubicek Marvin Dawes and daughter from Osceola visited John Kubicek. Walter Nebosis, Bellwood employee, weekend with Julius Nebosis. John Gabriel hosted Sunday guests Henry Ebel Jr and Sr with families. Vincent Messing of Shelby visited his parents.
