Nebraska Turkeys Dominate Eastern Thanksgiving Markets

Nebraska turkey production earns attention as American Stores orders 10 000 birds from North Platte Valley. Omaha shipments come from Wyoming, with Sidney and Scottybluff supplying much of the stock. Prices range from 12 to 28 1/4 cents per pound, No 2 turkeys at 12 cents. Last year 21 carloads sold. this year expected near that total. Nebraska poultry last year weighed 38 545 pounds at 188 cents per pound, bringing sellers 7 246 000 dollars.

Sunday Dismissals for Lucy West Funeral Held in Community

Wesley Chapel and Church of the Chapel ended services on Sunday to allow the congregation to attend the funeral of Mrs Lucy West a former member and longtime settler. Figures from Great Western Sugar show the North Platte Valley harvests a near record beet crop with about 14.5 tons per acre and 14 percent sugar content. Six Great Western factories at Scottsbluff Gering Bayard Minatare Lyman Mitchell employ many workers, while Grand Island hosts Nebraska's seventh factory of American Beet Sugar. In 1929 Nebraska growers earned an estimated 7.378 million dollars with an average price of seven dollars per ton.
