Only Nebraska Civil War veteran cited for valor remains
Corporal Leander Herron of St. Paul Nebraska is the sole living Civil War veteran in Nebraska to receive the Medal of Honor. He earned the award for actions near Fort Dodge Kansas on September 2 1868 while with Company A Third U S Infantry. He aided four enlisted men attacked by about fifty Indians and stayed with them until relief arrived.

Arthur Clyde Scott born December 23 1878 in Altona Illinois died November 30 1930 at his home in Grand Island Nebraska at 51 years 11 months 7 days. He moved to Nebraska in 1883 lived there except five years in Kansas married Rose Gregorius October 6 1906 in Columbus Nebraska. Survived by wife two daughters one son and one grandson all of Grand Island plus four sisters and five brothers. He was connected with Shelby and remembered by Osceola residents and led Grand Island Horse and Mule Sales Company as president 12 14 years. Funeral at Episcopal Church Grand Island December 8 burial in Grand Island cemetery.

Phillip Micek Sr., 81, longtime Molk Conty resident, died Friday at 9 am from high blood pressure and uremia. Born in Poland, he immigrated in 1877 with Mary Boro, lived near Clear Creek and a farm southwest of the original location, later moving near Shelby. Survived by wife Victoria Oba, six children, 27 grandchildren, and several great grandchildren. Funeral at St Marys church Pilsno, 10 am Monday. interment in its cemetery.
