Local news notes Addie Carter a teacher at Dist 1 will host a program and box social at her school on Thursday evening November 22. Community updates include visits, weddings, church anniversary events, and a regional Lutheran Church history celebration with multiple pastors attending.
The regular semi monthly meeting of the Woman's Club was held Monday evening at the school house with good attendance. The general meeting occurred in the high school assembly followed by department gatherings. Mrs George Berck hosted the Art and Craft department at her country home while other departments met at the school house.
The American Legion Auxiliary met at the G A R Hall on Friday afternoon. A luncheon was served at one o'clock by committee members Mesdames Anderson Beatty Shaw Schumann Van Housen and Hansen. Attendees sewed and tied quilts and officers were elected: President Mrs Mc Anderson Vice President Mrs Joe Peterson Second vice president Mrs May Dixon Secretary Thelma Johnson Treasurer Mrs P W Horst Chaplain Mrs W O Hansen and Sergeant at arms Mrs Chas Greenwood.

Happy Hour Society guests at Mrs Wieseman. Walter Wieseman and Roy Gilbert visit York. Joe Wieseman’s family dine with C Lucas near Silver Creek.
The Thompson Hotel was sold Monday to George W. Sterling proprietor of the North Side Cafe. Sterling has hotel experience including duties at the McCloud Hotel in York. Also noted are local anniversaries and visits from residents, and several residents attending football games in Lincoln and Binoola.
Due to illness in Mrs. Lee Green's family the South Shelby Club will meet Friday November 30 at Mrs. Raymond Crossant's home. The extension lesson Making Wash-day Easier will be presented. A covered dish lunch is planned and each member should bring a dish. Visitors are welcome.

Mrs. Victor Fernandez born Anna Lovisa Tarson in Kristinehamn Sweden March 14 1854 came to America in 1872 and settled in Escanaba Michigan later living near Holdrege and Chappell Nebraska. She died November 11 after influenza at age 68 with three weeks of illness. She leaves husband Victor Fernandez four children eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Funeral at St Paul Lutheran Osceola on November 20 with burial in Osceola Cemetery.
Rev Shick of the Crowell Home at Blair gave a talk at Wesley Chapel Sunday afternoon. Dr. Travis will attend next Sunday. Various local residents visited, hosted and toured nearby farms and towns including Shelby Ogallala Julesburg and Columbus. L. E. Preadway serves on the jury this week. Some farmers finished husking and Miss Helen Swanson secured a government position after completing a Kansas City business course.
Acknowledgments from Mr C V Fornander and family thank friends and neighbors for kindness during the illness and death of their wife and mother. Also listed are Hilda Larson Robert Runquist Herman Runquist Alinda Fornander. An ad asks readers if their child is underweight nervous tired pale anaemic stooped and urges buying Christmas Seals to help all.
Shelby area news notes visits births and meetings from Osceola to Rising City. Obituary for Hannah Mary Johns Cadwell details birth in Indiana 1854 marriage 1877 children and funeral at Osceola Methodist Church.
The Wesley Chapel Woman's Club met November 15 at Miss Lulu Burns home. Thirteen members and five visitors attended. Vice President Olive Hayhurst led the meeting with a song and the roll call used a favorite kitchen motto. Extension class on Wash Day Supplies was led by Mrs Maude Richards and substitute Mrs Margaret Richards. A flower march followed. Plans for a December 6 Christmas party at 2 PM at Mrs Hannah Herrmanns home were announced with guests Welcome. Refreshments were served and the meeting adjourned.
The M W A calls a regular meeting on Tuesday evening November 27 at 7 30 PM. It notes only one more meeting this year for the election of officers and urges all members to attend and participate actively.
Beulah Blazier McCormick and wife with sister Jessie attended the Pittsburg Nebraska game in Lincoln. Lavina Dolph of Silver Creek visited Wilma Need. Dinner guests at Thomas Meacham included Lawrence Campbell and family, Joe Need family. Luella Lovell visited Mrs Edd Anderson near Swede Home. Jay Buchta from Minneapolis stayed with his parents and sister in Osceola. Dean McCormick and family dined with John McCormick. Mr and Mrs Wm. Dake and daughters called on John Buchta in Osceola. Clara Reed left for Wayne State Normal School for several weeks. Mrs. Margarette Sheets of Merino visiting cousin Mrs Leroy. Friends gathered at Geo Carter’s near Silver Creek for birthday remembrances of Mrs E E Finley and her uncle Wm Hartman.
Joseph B Wolfe born June 14 1860 in Fayette County Pennsylvania grew to adulthood in Kansas before marrying Mary Wilgus in November 1886. The couple had seven children and resided in Yutan and Osceola Nebraska where his wife died in 1910. He remarried Lula Benson in 1913, later dying November 13 in Grand Island at age 68 years 5 months. Funeral rites were held in Osceola and at the Methodist Church with Rev Handel Collier officiating.
