St Pauls Swedish Lutheran Osceola Founded 1904

Osceola Nebraska hosts the Swed ish Evangelical Lutheran St Paul i Congregation born from a November 14 1903 meeting led by Rev Hokanson and Rev Nordling with 46 communicants and 41 children joining. The church and parsonage were built cost about 4619.83 and 1515.20 respectively. Building funds and organ added later.

Five Club Calves Bring 192 Cents Per Pound At Aksarben Show

Potle County club members exhibited five baby beeves at the Aksarben Live Stock Show winning 38.00 in cash prizes and averaging 19.2 cents per pound with total checks of 943.33 after feed and auction fees. Robert Lees Shelby fed and showed the grand champion pure bred Angus calf weighing 157 pounds at 21.50 cents per pound. Homer and Harold Ingalls showed four calves in Omaha with top finishes and an average weight of 1001 pounds at 18.62 cents per pound. Union Pacific awarded scholarships to Homer and Harold for county champion honors over the last two years. Harold will attend an agricultural short course and Homer will study auto and tractor mechanics.

Maple Leaf Club Holds Meeting and Election Prep

The Maple Leaf Club met at Mrs. Vera Wieseman’s home with large attendance. A project leader demonstration followed a business session, roll call requested a Thanksgiving dinner item, and a lunch was served. The group adjourned to meet Mrs. Martha Wyman’s home on December 6 for annual officers’ election.

Little Girl Injured in Car Accident Near Home

Virginia McBeth nine years old, daughter of Mr and Mrs Chas McBeth, was severely injured Sunday evening when struck by a car as she crossed the highway. She suffered broken left leg above the ankle right leg below the hip with a dislocated hip, plus cuts and bruises. she is resting as well as possible.

Pratt family returns from Texas visit to Osceola

W. E. Pratt, after months in Angieton Texas, arrived in Osceola on Tuesday. Mrs. Pratt traveled to Broker Arrow Oklahoma to visit her mother. Miss Irene Newcomer, an employee at Ana Oklahoma, accompanied him home and will visit her parents Mr and Mrs Charles Newcomer for the next weeks.

Local Farmer Found Dead Near Stromsburg J Edd Sandell

J Edd Sandell 63 a lifelong farmer living six miles east of Stromsburg was found dead on his farm last Friday after neighbors noticed unattended cattle drinking water for days. Officials said he likely died two days earlier, with relatives in Sweden noted. Funeral held at Swedish Lutheran Church led by Rev Trued.

Supreme Court Refuses Widow Inheritance Tax Challenge

The Supreme Court declined to consider a Nebraska widow’s challenge to state inheritance laws, ruling federal tax applied to the entire estate. The suit, filed by the administrator of Peter Bergman’s estate after his Polk Nebraska death in February 1923, sought to deduct the widow’s share before taxation, which would have reduced the tax by about ten thousand dollars.
