Private Eugene V. Gondringer, 24, son of the late M J Gondringer, entered the armed forces June 16, 1942. A Shelby high school graduate, he farmed near Shelby for seven years before joining a heavy weapon battalion for thirteen weeks at Camp Wheeler, Georgia.
Letter from Lester A. Peters a Petty Officer First Class Pharmacist Mate in the Navy thanks Osceola Record for front page coverage of hometown servicemen. He praises the paper for bridging distance, shares pride in overseas service, and urges support for Victory Bonds and Stamps.
Herman A. Larson of Stromsburg resigns from Polk County AAA committee to take a Civil Service post as Postal Railway Clerk with headquarters in Omaha. Larson previously served two years on the county committee since September 1942. Herman A. Jones of Osceola becomes first alternate and succeeds him. Jones has nine years of AAA county committee experience.

A nine pound baby boy was born to Mr and Mrs Harold Gondringer of near Shelby on Saturday November 14.
Final canvass confirms John J. Anderson re elected as County Clerk by a single vote. Opponent Miss Sophia Kresha has not stated if a recount will be sought and is taking a vacation. in her absence Miss Margaret Huston assists in the clerk's office.
Mr and Mrs Maurice Watts announce the birth of a daughter Annette on Saturday November 14. Johnny Burritt and friends plan a Denver visit in the coming months. The Hollie and Ervin Grossnicklaus families joined a Thursday party at Henry Grossnicklaus’s Shelby home honoring Sergeant Ray Grossnicklaus on furlough from San Luis Obispo, California. He returned to California Sunday. The McKeag home hosted a Friday birthday event for Chas Massie with Mr and Mrs Jack Johnston and family in attendance. E E Burritt and sons of the valley visited the W A Burritt home Sunday.
Mr and Mrs Ralph Kahler hosted callers from Polk Hastings and Kahler family. Leland Harless and Polk guests dined with S J Harless. Willits and Grant Willits visited Omaha. Forss joined Ray Johnson for a Sunday visit. High Prairie High School plans the Thanksgiving play Aunt Smanthy Rules the Roast on Wednesday November 25 at 8 00 pm.
The Woman's Society of Christian Service met last Thursday with Lula Burns. Members plan a December Christmas gathering at the Ross Richards home. Louis Schott was among ten farmers honored at the District PF4L meeting in Columbus. Robert Moore, son of Mrs. Edith Richards, has completed training at Great Lakes Naval Training Station and serves aboard a battleship in the Pacific. Dr. Victor Herrmann finished six weeks of special training in Texas and returned to California. Mrs. A. E. Dawes hosted the families of her three sons at supper Friday. The Neil Dawes family travels home to Butte from Lincoln. Mr. and Mrs. August Fischer will drive to Ames to attend their son Charles graduation as a machinist mate. Ray and Rex Brigham and their wives attended the PF-L meeting in Columbus, and Sunday visitors included Robert and Mr. and Mrs. Floyd West and Edith Hope with Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Boden.

Richard Hiemer returned home after two weeks husking at Plattsmouth. Leo Richter, visiting relatives, headed to Denver then Bowling Green VA for army duties. E J Krumbach and family and John Hiemer and family were guests at Vic Krumbach's. Local students attended Shelby vs Gresham in Gresham Wednesday.

Sarah Jean Joy born October 23 1911 near Watonga Oklahoma taught in Nebraska married Willard Keith Cox in 1933. They moved from Basin Wyoming to Florida and then Bonners Ferry Idaho where both died November 5 1942. Survived by husband mother sisters brothers and relatives. Robert Joseph Cox born August 2 1986 Basin Wyoming moved with parents to Boynton Florida then Bonners Ferry where he died November 5 1942 at age 6 years 3 months 3 days.
The Greens Chapel Ladies Aid announce their annual chicken supper and rug sale to be held Monday evening November 30. Several local residents, including Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Erickson of Aurora and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Anderson of Marquette, visited area families this week.
The week of November 22 to 28 is proclaimed Minute Women at War Week with a call for all women to buy War Bonds and Stamps. Sponsored by the Women's Division of the War Saving Committee, the drive aims to make it the biggest bond week of the year.
David M. Smith, 21, son of Mr and Mrs Guy Smith of Clarks, attended Riverside School and enlisted in July 1942. He is now stationed in San Diego California.
Stromsburg traveled to Osceola and beat the Bull dogs 13 to 7 in the Armistice Day game. Stanton scored a 10 yard TD in the second quarter and Head man added the extra point. Byers then plunged for a late TD as Osceola failed the PAT.
