Osceola Chamber Urges Local Shopping As Holidays Near

Osceola and surrounding area urged to shop at home to support needed services and institutions. 4-H Members Honored at Polk County Jamboree

About 100 people attended the Extension Jamboree and Pot Luck at the Viking Center Stromsburg on Monday November 15 marking the Polk County Extension Board annual meeting and 4-H Achievement Night. Recipients earned medals from national and local sponsors across multiple project areas including Ford Motor Company Fund and Standard Brands Inc. warning is omitted.

Gaedeke Builds Wood Burning Furnace For Home Heating

Chris Gaedeke designed and built a wood burning furnace costing about 720 dollars to heat his 50 by 28 foot house and 2,000 gallon hot water tank. With six logs daily, the system delivers 160 to 170 degree water through a copper radiator, powering house heat and hot water. Inspired by Lawrence Cremeen, the setup uses a self built firebox and a second hand insulated tank, with future plans for solar integration.

Polk County Conservation Plan and School District Survey

The Polk County ACP Development group met October 28 at the ASCS office to craft a county conservation plan with cost sharing for soil and water objectives. Officials highlighted erosion control, wildlife habitat, and shelterbelt improvements with available funds for 1976 77. In District 19 a November 16 survey at the high school sampled residents on 75 skills for graduation and school community responsibility with results to guide curriculum objectives.

Osceola to Consider Outdoor Classroom in School Plan

An advisory committee of ten will meet November 23 at 7 30 in the Osceola High School science room to discuss an outdoor classroom. The project aims to provide a vegetation rich area for conservation education and study across grades. Funding includes a $300 donation from the Natural Resources District and a possible $1500 grant if Osceola’s Title IV ESEA application is approved by the Nebraska State Department of Education.

Junior Class Presents Comedy Western Friday

Polk County Agricultural Society held its annual meeting at the fair grounds office on Wednesday afternoon November 10. Board members elected for a three year term were George Tiaden Columbus Jim Marak Stromsburg and Glen Petersen Stromsburg. A regular meeting followed and officers for 1977 were elected president Henry Galus vice president Jim Marak secretary Donald Sigler and treasurer Walden Jones.
