Bruce Trefers foray into the guessing contest earns praise for just three wrong picks and a Nebraska over Oklahoma State 27 to 7. The Treffer children participate weekly and the writer commends the sportsmanlike competition over mass entries from adults.

Nov 7 at Stroms burg cafe a reception honored Elmer E. and spouse on their golden wedding anniversary hosted by Warren Johnson Rolland Johnson and family. Garden Club hosts Edith Richards Hazel Fintel Edith Richards hosted 16 members with Bulbs and Uses lesson by Maude Magnuson. Doris Grassnicklaus won prize. Lincoln Telephone announces intrastate rate changes

The Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph Co. sets new long distance rates effective November 21. Night rates for intrastate station-to-station calls begin at 8 p.m. on weekdays and all day Sunday. Evening rates run 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays and all day Saturday. Overtime rates start on the 4th minute for person-to-person intrastate calls. The night rate applies to calls within Nebraska beyond 45 miles.

Honey Sunday canvass to fund local retarded children

Volunteers will ring doorbells in Osceola on Sunday for Honey Sunday. The statewide drive, sponsored by the Junior Chamber of Commerce, aims to raise funds for local children and will run from 1 to 4 pm with contact options at Roy Trotter or Roy's Body Shop. About 50,000 pounds of honey will be sold in Nebraska.

Osceola High Band Earns Superior Rating at State Contest

Osceola high school band, led by Diane Lux, earned a superior rating at the state marching contest in Lincoln. Performing three tunes Hey Look Us Over 76 Trombones and The Days of Glory the group stood among 50 plus bands and was one of four class C units to rate superior.

Dinner guests in the home of Dianne and Kim Tyner Sunday evening were her parents the Arthur Doremuses of Polk and Rodney Gestrine of Osceola. The Richard Kleins and Norman Leaches left Friday noon for Stillwater Oklahoma for the Nebraska Oklahoma game and returned Sunday evening. The condition of George DeLand remains unchanged at University Hospital in Omaha. Mrs Lena Johnson of Stromsburg and Mrs Edna Peterson of Osceola were visitors in the Glenn Anderson home Saturday afternoon.

Pearl Harbor veterans plan Midwest reunion in St Paul and Wolbach

Final plans near for the Pearl Harbor Attack Veterans convention to be held Saturday December 4 in St Paul and Wolbach. A breakfast and business meeting precede memorial services at 11 57 a m on the Howard County Court House lawn. Norton to chair governor's education committee plans

Governor Morrison announced a 53 member committee on education chaired by Bill Norton of Osceola. The panel will meet annually as a permanent body with an executive panel to consider a master plan for grade and high school education, district reorganization and state standards. Norton also heads the state power review board.
