Polk County Man Killed in Buggy Crash Near Shelby
Rudolph Gabel an 80 year old farmer riding in a buggy was killed when an automobile driven by Arthur Mellenger of David City struck the buggy on a side road two miles east of Shelby. The horse also died and Dr A A Byam of Shelby attended. Mellenger said the buggy was on the wrong side of the road and the crash was nearly head on.

Death of John Erickson in Engelwood Colorado
John Erickson aged 75 died in an Engelwood Colorado hospital from bronchial pneumonia. Born in Sweden he moved to Illinois as a child and later settled near Stromsburg Polk County. He worked in the Stromsburg grain trade with S B Samuelson and later with his brother Eric before relocating to Colorado. His body was brought to Stromsburg for services and he leaves his wife and two daughters Maude Erickson and Mrs. Donald A Yates of Engelwood.

FERA Water Conservation Program Active In Osceola Area
The FERA Water Conservation Program begun August 9, 1924, is underway under J A Wyman. Requests for about 20 dams have been filed with the FERA Work Division. Ground was broken for a 250 by 15 foot earth dam near Martin Scholz east of Osceola creating a 2 12 acre reservoir. A second dam at Jacob Amacher farm six miles north will impound about four acres. The projects aim to flood control and provide drought relief, with five days of work for eight men. A Soil Erosion Program is also launched, focusing on terracing and brush dam work at suitable sites with landowner requests to Miss Jeanne Backlund.
