The column celebrates Veterans Day November 11 Memorial Day May 30 and Independence Day July 4 and notes the nation’s Bicentennial emphasis. It recalls General Jimmy Doolittle and honors local veterans while reporting community actions from honey drives to deer hunting and plantings at the Record office.

Nominees announced by Eugene Sterup for ASC committees in Polk County cover four communities. Election by mail runs November 21 to December, with ballots sent to eligible voters.
More than fifty farmers land owners and local businessmen attended a November 4 informational meeting in the ASC office on the proposed Davis Creek Watershed Project of the Upper Big Blue NRD. An advisory board was chosen to consult with landowners on constructing structure sites and modifying dams. Fifteen sites with both large and small dams are proposed for the area. Advisory board members include Kenneth Peterson Paul Walgren Jack Wieseman Don Yungdahl Joe Headrick Enoch Anderson and Robert Mills.
The 1976 national feed grain allotment remains at 89 million acres as in 1975. USDA expectations note 1975-76 supplies around 219 million short tons, a 16 percent gain from 1974-75, with strong export demand and favorable prices guiding farming plans. An informational meeting by the Upper Big Blue NRD reviews a drainage improvement plan southwest of Shelby affecting about 2 000 acres of agricultural land. The review session is set for November 13 1975 at 7 30 p m in Osceola Nebraska with planning help from the Osceola SCS Office.
The November City Council session in the city building heard from John C. Kelley region 9 COG consultant on HUD FHA grants and government surplus programs while Richard Walsh from an engineering firm outlined sewage disposal issues. Ordinance 332 authorized selling city lots to Douglas Holm and building permits were issued to Gaynelle Winslow Becher Curry and Merle Johnson. Three new firefighters Steve Kuhnel Doug Holm and Lee Van Winkle were approved. The council adjourned after approving bills and warrants.
Gary Garey of Omaha repeats as winner of the weekly football quarterback contest. Nine correct predictions won, five tied for second with eight right. Scores listed include Missouri 44 Iowa State 14 and Auburn 21 Mississippi State 21 among others.
Ed Pierce becomes the third month on duty as medical technologist at Annie Jeffrey Hospital Osceola. He trained at Kearney State College and did a year internship at St Elizabeth's in Lincoln before moving to Osceola. He is employed by Pathology Medical Services of Lincoln and lives near South Nance and Central Streets. He plans to move to Hendrick apartment and enjoys hunting and skiing in Colorado.
