Water usage by residents of Wymore and the Springs has risen, lowering the water table and prompting construction of a new well near the existing pumping plant site. The location was used years ago but floods in 1941 moved wells west to avoid flooding. The four wells served both towns until this summer when pumped to capacity. Wyner Arbor State.
The North Platte Memorial Hospital Building Fund campaign advances steadily with many unsealed contributions. Officials expect the goal to be reached by the first of next week, avoiding costly banquets to maintain worker enthusiasm.
Ivan Cone of west O Neill showed a giant nine pound beet. He said he tended the plant all summer and believed it would root. The vegetable measured fifteen inches from tip to top.
The Colfax County Call reports a baby daughter born to Mrs Milo Dietrich at the new Mm Cinal toopital on opening day. By the following Wednesday the hospital census reached 21 patients with five infants in the nursery.
Gus Olgon a former Newman Grove merchant now runs a Motel in Iron River Michigan and with his wife opened hunting season at daybreak. Lacking a bird dog they used a bulldog which got lost. In the search his wife also vanished and after six hours she was found exhausted by traveling in a circle and walking about twenty miles while spotting game.
The widening and black top paving of lishway 30 from Central City to Silver Creek was completed last week. Most machinery and crew moved to other jobs. Next spring a crew will return to coat the road and may extend work east of Silver Creek by two or three miles.
Two nine year old boys found the bodies of three Plattsmouth young men missing since October 12. The discovery was made Sunday in an 80 foot ravine about a mile south of Cedar Creek. They were victims of an auto accident which apparently occurred that date.
Alex E. Legge 55 a Dodge County resident and head of KORN in North Bend was killed when his car lost control and crashed east of North Bend on Highway 30 on Tuesday evening according to the North Bend Eagle.
Saline county fire protection district became a reality last Thursday night when qualified voters approved the motion to organize the district by a two to one margin Wilber Republican.
Lee Taylor and his mother visited the Blair Enterprise showroom last week where the three year old was drawn to a new plant machine. After much persuasion Mrs. Taylor led him away while he asked for the item as a Christmas gift, though its price stood at $10,000.
Thirteen year old Harlan Per ske digs a well preserved skeleton from a river bank in Elkhorn River area. He presents skull with teeth, arm and leg bones, pelvis, rib fragments and copper bracelets and beads. Dr Tennett believes the find is an Indian artifact from Stanton Register.
St Paul Evangelical Lutheran Congregation celebrates its 50th anniversary with a historical session on Saturday at 2 PM, includes a building fund offering, cake and coffee by Ladies Aid, and a Sunday program with visiting pastors, a confirmation reunion, vesper service, and missionary offering.

I M Staroscik died Sunday at his Columbus home after years of illness. Funeral services were held November 11 at St Anthony's Catholic Church in Columbus. Born January 13 1895 in Duncan he worked in a Duncan mercantile then managed Lone Star grocery for ten years. Survived by wife eight children five sisters five brothers including John Staroseik of Osceola.
Mrs Elmer Stewart was honored at a pink and blue shower Friday evening November 6 at the Roy Grossnicklaus home. The rooms were decorated with fall flowers and games with prizes were played. Lunch was served by hostesses Mrs James Marak Mrs Duane Sterner and Miss Elaine Grossnicklaus.
Stoner Club gathers November 18 at 2 00 with Mrs Ina Mangelsen and Mrs Betty Sigler assisting. PEO hosts November 18 with Mrs Leon Merrick. Legion Auxiliary convenes November 20 at legion rooms with Mrs Joe Schott Mrs Maria Fulwider and Mrs Vernon Johnson as hostesses. TC Club meets November 18 at Mrs Calmar Herrmanns home. Beulah Cemetery Society holds white elephant sale November 20 at Mrs Minnie Cadwell home with Effie Finecy assisting. WCTU meets November 19 at 2 pm with canned fruit for Thanksgiving Shower. Hospital Auxiliary meets November 16 at 8 pm at legion rooms. Busy Belles Extension Club meets November 16 at Mrs F E Goerlnger home. Garden Club meets November 18 at Mrs John Fintels home.
The St. Vincent Holy Name Society elected officers last week: president Ozzie Goerlinger secretary Morris Senn and treasurer Gerhardt Lux. The St. Andrew Altar Society at Conrad Kropatsen home named officers: president Mrs. Hubert Bernt secretary Miss Maifred Hahn treasurer Mrs. Alfred Bernt. The year ends with a final meeting at Vincent Wieser home on Thursday December 10.
Robert Highland McBeth born March 29 1874 near Osceola died November 7 1953 from an automobile accident near Oxford Nebraska. He married Mae Lewis January 3 1900 at Osceola and lived on a farm near his birth place most of life retiring to Pasadena California in 1942. Survived by six children three brothers one sister and 13 grandchildren. Services were held November 11 at Kepner Funeral Home with burial at Osceola Cemetery.
Mr. and Mrs. George B Anderson returned from a month long trip covering about 5000 miles through Mobile Jacksonville Miami the Everglades Sarasota and along the west coast then home via New Orleans Baton Rouge and Texas Oklahoma and Kansas Louisiana claimed the most historical places on the journey They arrived in Osceola on November 4. Mrs E W Bonne Mike and Mr and Mrs L L Her visited the Harold Berglund home near Stromsburg and helped celebrate Lena Lindgren 84th birthday.
Osceola news notes a new police chief as Burl Fox resigns and John Campbell takes over guiding Osceola patrols and street work. Osceola students from music departments join John Adams for the State High School Music Clinic at Fremont Thursday through Saturday with Phyllis Branting Tom Husak Dick Randall Joan Rech and Mary Anderson named among participants.
A weekend snowfall swept across Nebraska from the west and south into Polk County. Snow depths reached up to eight inches in places with three inches in Polk County and a moisture content of .40 inch aiding dry wheat and crops. Temperatures dipped to 12 degrees Saturday night with a high of 36 degrees Sunday as melting followed the warmer start of the week.

A smorgasbord at the M. R. Anderson home Friday evening hosted by the Lutheran Cook Book committee and families honored Rev. and Mrs. Swenson and their kin. They created a memory Cook Book for the Swenson family to take to their new location and received a group gift.
At the state 4 H meeting on April 11 three Polk County girls earned leaders honors among 19 champions. Rugene and Betty Lees of Shelby won bread demonstrations while Rogene Lees completed 49 4 H projects and Marilyn Hahn of Polk won Citizenship with 29 completed projects.
