A Jersey cow owned by Will Wittig gave birth to a calf about three weeks ago weighing 18 pounds. The calf now weighs 22 pounds, feeds from a tea cup, and can run with its mother though still so small it can pass under a newborn Hereford calf. Meanwhile a 34 year old Waco farmer Alfred Blum was wounded in a hunting accident with a shotgun blast. his condition is satisfactory at York Hospital. Prospecting for oil is under way on the Vernon E. Dewey farm two miles west of Sumner. Two test wells drilled in Dawson county in the past seven or eight years near Lexington were reported to strike granite at about 4,000 feet according to the Dawson County Herald.

Nellie Olson born in Sweden on August 3 1862 died October 31 1950 at Stanton Iowa aged 88 years two months and 28 days. She immigrated to Nebraska in 1887 with husband Isaac Olson settled near Lodgepole raised six children and outlived her spouse. She leaves two sons Otto Osceola and Oscar Lodgepole and three daughters Mrs Lillie Linde Arvada Colorado Mrs Lillian Johnson Sidney and Mrs Bertha Lindberg Stanton plus 11 grandchildren seven great grandchildren and many relatives. Funeral services were held in Red Oak Iowa and at Trinity Lutheran Church.
