Electricity Cut For An Hour In Osceola

Consumers PPD will power down Osceola for about one hour tonight to replace old switches. Superintendent Glen Green said crews are installing new equipment and must cut electricity to remove the old switches.

Guest speakers for GOP women luncheon at Bit of Sweden

Dr and Mrs L L Zierott of Long Beach California will be guest speakers at a Republican Women's Club luncheon at the Bit of Sweden in Stromsburg on Wednesday November 15 at 1 p.m. They recently returned from a Europe trip sponsored by the Voice of Americanism. Mrs Zierott is Aurora born and a sister of the late Mrs Arnold Isaacson of Polk.

Carl Dornan Wins The Record Armchair Quarterback Prize

Carl Dornan of Stromsburg won ten dollars in The Record Armchair Quarterback Contest with only two misses in the recent week. Other high scorers included Roy Hedlund and C Carlson of Stromsburg and several contestants from Osceola and surrounding areas. The final contest deadline was Friday at 5 and this marks the year end. Judy Cerny participates in Mount Marty College Founders Weekend planning in Yankton with Roncalli Center dedication set for November 12 at 2 p.m. Reverend Martin E. Marty to speak. A benefit show at Muse Theatre on November 22 and 23 will support Osceola High School with proceeds from the unrehearsed film Young Americans. Private Theron R. Tenn, 21, Osceola, has been assigned as a carpenter with the 815th Engineer Battalion near Pleiku, Vietnam, on October 22.

Osceola Bulldogs Clinch Goldenrod LCOP Title 30 6 at Genoa

Osceola bul led by Coach Paul McKeever clinched the Goldenrod conference with a 30-6 win at Genoa on Friday night. The Bulldogs totaled 196 rushing yards and 120 passing yards while holding Genoa to 39 rushing yards and 106 aerial yards. Jack Cerny sparked a key opening drive with a 6 yard score, and Cerny connected on passes to Bond and Augustin for additional scores as Osceola built a commanding lead.

Shelby dominates Humphrey 60 14 to finish 10 0 in a strong showing led by Dan Wombacher with six rushing TDs totaling 30 on the year. Treadway adds a 14 yard score and Kevin Peterson connects for multiple conversions as Voss and Peterson each find the end zone. City approves new 40 by 5 foot steel building

Mayor Leroy Johnson and the council authorize a 40 x 5 ft steel building on the city hall lot with Farmers Co-op Oil Assn as main contractor for 3545.85 and Richard Pogue of Stromsburg to erect and pour foundation for 1664. The structure will serve storage and repair needs with fiberglass skylights and a large south door. The meeting also approved selling a city lot to Gregg Johnson and appointing Walt Harbour as Legion club manager.

Halloween party winners named at Legion Chamber show

Over 100 boys and girls attended the Legion Chamber Halloween party and costume contest. In the younger group Jamie Mickey was first as a chipmunk, Douglas Mickey second as a tramp, Julie Meister third as Miss America. In the older group Steven Trotter won as The Mop, Denice Dunn as a fortune teller, Kathy Jo Thayer as a serviceman. Judges were Mrs. Elmer Gleim, Mrs. Ben Schmoker and Mrs. Lee Johnson.
