The Local American Legion post schedules Armistice Day events at the Auditorium and Morningside Field next Monday. A matinee screening of Masters of Men begins at 2:30 with a football game beside it. a 2:30 show of the film at 7:30 followed by a dance. Admission is 20 and 35 cents for the film and $1 for the dance.
The American Legion meeting Tuesday evening focused on Armistice Day plans for next Monday and the election of officers. Elected were W. F. Neujahr Commander Roy Van Hoosen First Vice Commander Fred Schuman Second Vice Commander Raymond Kepner Adjutant Kenneth Cornish Finance Officer Oscar Hedberg Delmar McFadden Leon Merrick Martin Anderson and Guy Ball Executive Committee.
All banks will close on Armistice Day November 12. Earl Hassler traveled to Lincoln on business Tuesday. Miss Ida Opal was a passenger to Lincoln Tuesday morning.
Washington reports show renewed consumer and farmer caution easing. Agricultural loans shrink, bank loans fall, and savings rise as freight car activity climbs and timber demand grows. September 1923 building permits exceed prior year, signaling expansion.
Miss Martha Silverstrand and Frank Leibhee were married at the Presbyterian church in Council Bluffs at noon on Saturday November 3. They will live in Bradshaw where the groom runs Manhattan Oil Co. He served in World War I with field artillery. The bride has been deputy in the county judge’s office for five years and studied at the university in Lincoln since September.
Mr and Mrs L E Vorce of 403 east Court street announce the engagement of their daughter Louise Elaine to Dr F LaVerne Heinemeyer of Evanston Ill The wedding will take place in the Fall months Miss Vorce is a Ludington social figure a 1920 high school graduate who later trained as a kindergarten teacher and has taught in Muskegon and Evanston Ill
Earl Hartman twelve year old son of Mr and Mrs W T Hartman had a close call when a savage hog attacked him at the Hartman farm on the valley Saturday afternoon. He was knocked down and gash was torn in his leg before his sisters shouted and clubbed the animal away. The hog, known to be stubborn for weeks, will be removed by the farmer.
The high school faculty stages The Lion and the Mouse in four acts on Monday evening November 15 at the city Auditorium. Cast lists include Jean Brigham Eva Wieseman and Charles LeBar with proceeds supporting educational purposes. Tickets go on sale at Hassler's Drug Store at eight in the morning with 25c for under 15 and 50c for 15 and over. Curtain at 8 P M with seating between acts.
Notice for Monday evening November 12 at 7 30 in the high school assembly room. Agenda includes a musical number and a convention report by Judge Ball. Members are asked to express desired program types. Secretary Mrs A A Beatty. Mrs B F Brown left for Ord to visit friends.
Osceola defeated Ulysses 13 to 4 Friday in a hard fought game at home. Key plays included a 1 yard fumble return by Werhert Fillman and a 15 yard touchdown by Charlie Hastings. Ulysses showcased stubborn line plunges but could not overcome turnovers and failed passes.
County Agent Adair reports Farm Bureau identified score cards for Boys and Girls club work have been checked and winners named. Champions include Philip Johnson Osceola in Boys Pig Club. Artemise Smith Polk in Girls Sewing. Naomi Tockey Osceola in Home Economics. Tockey and Una Koehler win state poultry pennant and Polk County sends three champions to state contest with a $75 trip prize to the Chicago International Livestock Show on December 18. Achievement Day on Nov 16 features Stromsburg Girls Sewing and Boys Pig clubs, with Mrs Tockeys valley club holding an evening program at Old Beulah church.
Horace Henry Hubbard born July 24 1855 in Lisbon Illinois dies November 7 after paralysis left him unconscious since the prior Saturday. Survived by widow Genevieve Atkins Hubbard son Glen and granddaughter Verna Maxine. Funeral at Presbyterian church conducted by Rev. Thos E Barr with Osceola cemetery interment.
Mrs A Ransom died in Osceola aged 73. Born Lucy J Cochran in Forest County Pennsylvania in July 1850 she moved with parents to Burlington and Nebraska in 1887. She married J W Bennett in 1876 producing son H F Bennett who survived with her last husband Mr A Ransom. The body was returned to Omaha for burial with her son.

Survived by son Victor Peterson Osceola daughter Mrs Andrew Lindholm Lincoln Neb Mrs Gust Sandquist Leola SD 44 grandchildren 26 great grandchildren lifelong member of St Lutheran church Swede Home remains laid beside husband in cemetery south of church.
The Peterson family extends heartfelt thanks to friends for sympathy and kindness after the loss of their beloved mother. Victor Peterson and Mrs. Oscar Thelander Mrs. Andrew Lindholm and Mrs. Gust Sandquist express appreciation for support.

Helen Johnson of Stromsburg wins the grand prize Dodge car from Bystrom Co. other winners include Lydia Addison Osceola and Miss Nancy Dielman Osceola earning top prizes and a wrist watch for Mrs Knapp Osceola.
The Beulah Junior Poultry Club hosts an achievement day at the old Beulah church on Thursday evening November 15 at 7 45. County clubs and leaders are invited. The program includes a club song welcoming address a member talk What I learned at the State Fair Una Koehler How Club Work Has Helped the Community Prof Clements Rev Hendrickson and certificate presentation by L I Frisbie State Club Leader. An oyster supper will be served afterward.
