30 Percent Immunized At Polk County Clinic

The Swine Flu immunization drive in Polk County last Thursday vaccinated about 1500 people, roughly 30 percent of eligible residents. Volunteers and Health Department staff toured four town clinics with help from Shelby Osceola Stromsburg and Polk coordinators and county leader Duane Jones.

Doane Graduate Is New OHS Basketball Coach

David Bowman, a 1975 Doane College graduate, is named new Osceola High School basketball coach. He and wife Susan moved to Osceola last summer. he also teaches biology general science and junior high social studies and will serve as assistant track coach next spring. They reside at 120 Central.

Clarks Bombers Dominated OHL In Last Game

Clarks Bombers defeated the visiting Bulldogs 54 to 6 last Wednesday night as Ken Rieken ran for three touchdowns and Pete Upton connected on a 45 yard pass to Tony Peterson. Joe Graham led Bulldogs with 55 rushing yards while Dick Church returned an interception for a TD.

Commissioners Nix Plan To Cut Mental Retardation Program

At the October 25 Human Services Board meeting in Lincoln Region V officials opposed Governor’s Committee recommendations to cut county control of mental retardation programs and reduce regional directors. Proposals include funding per capita, restructuring regions from six to five, and eliminating Polk and Butler counties.
