Halloween Costume Contest Winners at Osceola Legion Club

About 100 youngsters attended the Osceola Legion Club Halloween contest sponsored by the Osceola Chamber of Commerce and the Osceola American Legion. First place in 8 years and younger went to Kyle and Veronica Johansen, second to Michelle and Annette Miller, third to Danny Schott. In the 9 and over group Kent Urban won first, with Chris Fujan and Lori Coffin taking second and third. Prizes were $5, $3, and $2 plus treats for all entrants.

Regulators will enforce tagging big game immediately after downing during Nebraska firearm deer season. The carcass tag must stay on the deer until sealed at a check station and includes spaces for hunter signature and date. A new single carcass tag replaces prior license and multiple tags. detaching cancels the permit.

UNICEF Drive Funds Raised by Osceola Youth

Fifty three Osceola youths gathered at the Lutheran Church Sunday evening to receive UNICEF assignments. The groups split up and canvassed the community, bringing in 134 dollars for UNICEF projects. Refreshments were served as they returned.

Osceola Midgets Close Season With 6-0 Victory

The Osceola Midget team finished their season by beating the Columbus Bears 6-0 on Sunday at Shelby field. Quarterback Randy Bond scored the lone touchdown as Osceola finished 3-2-1 for 1971. A dinner for players parents coaches and wives is set for Sunday November 7 at Rising City.

Anderson Wins Tight Contest In Narrow Margin

Upsets marked the weekend as Lester Anderson edged Dery Reed on a tie breaker in the Quarterback Contest by predicting 180 rushing yards for Nebraska versus 198 and 242 by the other entrant. Several participants missed only a few games while others misguessed Kentucky Georgia. Mauritz Swanson funeral services were held Tuesday at St Paul Lutheran Church with burial in Osceola Cemetery.

Osceola Band Tops Pershing Festival With Unanimous 1

Osceola Bulldog Marching Band earned a superior 1 rating at the 14th Nebraska High School Marching Band Festival in Lincoln Pershing Auditorium their only class C D entry to do so. Judges each gave a 1 despite 2 scores. rival Table Rock Hampton and Plainview also posted 1s. A victory party at a Lincoln pizza parlor followed. Cadwaller presented a cake. Sally Mills Accepted for NMEA Clinic in Lincoln

OHS senior Sally Mills has been notified of her acceptance to the NMEA Clinic in Lincoln later this month after earning a place at Creighton tryouts on October 16. She will join other instrumentalists to form a state wide clinic band along with vocal participants Terry Anderson and Dana Boden.

Lincoln Steel grants scholarship to UNL senior Cederberg

Alvin R. Cederberg, a College of Engineering and Architecture senior at the University of Nebraska Lincoln, will graduate in the first semester and receives a 150 stipend from Lincoln Steel Corporation. He majors in mechanical engineering and holds a 3.7 GPA.

Bulldogs Clinch Title With 20-14 Win Over Tigers

OHS earned sole Gol denrod Conference championship by defeating Palmer 20 to 14. Key plays included an interception return for a TD by Steve Tenniges in the third quarter and a 1 yard TD by Jim Carlson. Carlson led rushing for OHS with 80 yards and 34 total plays, while Palmer’s Bruce Ortegren and Jim Nicholas connected on a 59 yard score. The finale is set for Genoa tomorrow at 7:30 with seven seniors playing their last high school game.

Board approves outside printing and track improvements

Osceola High School will print The Mike with mimeographing for the rest of the year after the current issue. The board also plans major track improvements using a road grader to level the 440 yard oval and remove trees and improve drainage.
