Hunters See Moderate Success With Ringneck Birds

Don Sigler to Become Polk County Agent

Don Sigler will begin duties as Polk County Agent on Monday November 15. A 1967 University of Nebraska graduate, he previously worked with the Dodge County office in Fremont focusing on youth programs. He and his wife Gloria have four children and attend St. Vincent Catholic Church.

NPPD reports 116942.55 delivered to county treasurers in 170 Nebraska counties as the first half of in lieu of real estate and personal taxes for 1971. Lancaster County received 14440.03. March payments include 698956.08 for 1970 second half and 224016.15 to 224 towns representing 2 percent of gross retail revenues.

Distress Grain Loans Help Polk and Merrick Farmers

The U S Department of Agriculture announced distress grain loans for 1971 crop ear corn piled on the ground in Polk and Merrick counties. Eligible farmers receive 75 percent of the basic county loan rate and can repay after 90 days or on demand, with access through the County ASCS office.

Tasting Tea Brings Swedish Exchange Student to Polk Center

Miss Lena Hultman from Sweden shared slides about her country at the Polk County Extension Testing Tea on Monday November 8 at the Viking Center. Lena sang with Krystal Johnson as Mrs. Max Gabel poured coffee and Mrs. Marvin Ericson served punch for about 110 attendees who tasted 28 recipes and received a recipe book. Mrs. Gene Scow won the door prize.
