Isaac J. Merrick of Osceola died October 31 1943 at age 85 after a long illness Born September 10 1858 in Meaford Ontario he migrated to Nebraska in 1871 He helped found Wesley Chapel Church and served as president of Polk Butler County Farmers Insurance Company for 25 years He married Mary Scott in 1893 observed golden wedding anniversary in 1943 Funeral held at the Methodist Church with interment in Osceola cemetery

Saturday’s trip sent Cpl Hidton Swanson to Fort Monroe Virginia after a short visit with his parents Mr and Mrs Fred Swanson. Baptist church members gathered at Mr and Mrs A Noreen’s home to honor the couple’s recent marriage. Various local families, along with Rev Edick Anderson from Polk, shared a Sunday afternoon gathering and gifts were presented. Mrs T A James spent the weekend in Stromsburg with her son John, a University of Nebraska student. Pfc Nimrod Noreen left Fresno California after a visit with his father A Moreen. Several families visited Julia Wilson’s home Sunday night including Steinbach Burke Gour Wilson Donelson Lindquist and Renquist. Mrs R L Anderson stayed in Lincoln with her daughter Betty and sister Mrs Lillie Peterson from Wednesday to Saturday.

The groom son of Mr and Mrs Curry Holbrook Neb a University of Nebraska graduate finished Midshipman's School in Chicago October 28 and left October 3 for sea duty in New York City after the ceremony.

Navy couples return home after short visit
Earl and Eurl Graff, in the Navy, returned to Virginia after a few days visit with their mother Mrs. Lottie Graff and family. Neil McCormick of Fort Ord California spent a furlough with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Lester McCormick and family. There was no school in the district Thursday and Friday as teachers attended a convention. Miss Arlois Irland and Dorothy Thelen attended the convention at Lincoln. Death of York Grocer Frank W. Schroeder
Friends in York learn of the death of former York grocer Frank W. Schroeder in a Sawtelle California veterans hospital on October 19. He was about 75, came to York from Wahoo 40 years ago to run Square Deal Grocery, later moved to Osceola as a traveling salesman, and ten years ago relocated to Alhambra California. A Spanish American War veteran, he is survived by his wife and their only son Dr Ralph Schroeder, now overseas.

Olive May Bond born February 7 1871 in Fairfield Iowa died October 20 at Hay Springs Nebraska at age 72. She had first married Newton Bush then C E Bond and is survived by sons Gail Bush Harold G Bush Ford Bond and stepsons Earl Bond Ora Bond and others.
