Osceola Bulldogs Rally To Upset Palmer Tigers 20-19

Osceola's Bulldogs erased a 19-0 deficit to stun league leader Palmer 20-19 on the road. Key plays included Wayne Kanter’s 1st quarter fumble return TD, Kenny Bowe’s 40–yard pass, and a fourth-quarter scoring drive capped by Bowe to Alan Gissler for the decisive conversion. Osceola finishes 3–2–3 and hosts Genoa in the season finale.

Osceola Fan Contest Winners Named and Entries Reported

Mrs Kentopp of Fremont won the Armchair Quarterbacks football guessing contest with 10 of 13 correct and closest on Osceola 20 Palmer 19. Several top entrants tied or near tied, while most picked Palmer. Deadline for entry is Friday November 5 at 5 p.m. Next contest appears in today’s Record with November 12 deadline. Also notes Tim Anderson leaves for barber college and Sandra Soukup pledges Alpha Phi at Kearney State.

Polk County Crops Weather Report

Gary Garey reports none rainfall for the week ending Saturday and adequate surface and subsoil moisture. Winter wheat excellent, irrigated corn and dry sorghums good, other crops fair. corn 18 percent harvested, sorghums 70 percent, soybeans 85 percent. Moisture 17 to 28 percent for corn, 11-30 percent sorghums, 10-18 percent soybeans. Feed and forage supplies average. feeder cattle numbers up. harvest ongoing for corn, grain sorghum, and soybeans with drier weather aiding progress.

Danny Liska of Niobrara will present slides and a narrative of his motorcycle journey across the Americas at Osceola on Friday night, November 12. The Lions Club sponsors the 8 p.m. event in the school gym. tickets are available from Lions members or at the door.

Hospital News Briefs and Transfers Across Communities

Dismissals list numerous patients from Osceola, Stromsburg, Gresham, Palmer, Benedict, Shelby, Polk, and nearby areas. Transfers include Edwin Mangelsen of Osceola. A fire call reports weekend response to an old barn near Jack Malek residence with suspected youth tobacco experiments.

Two Die and Several Hurt in Trio of Highway Crashes

A head on collision near Stromsburg killed Mrs Wallace Peterson 43 and Mrs Mary Ziemba 75 of Genoa. Two others, including Mark Peterson age 2, were injured and Helen Ziemba drove one car. A deer reportedly caused the crash near the 5 died 1961 site. Passers-by rushed survivors to Jeffrey Memorial hospital Osceola.

Veterans Day closures and 4-H trip winner highlight Osceola news

Stores and offices in Osceola will close Thursday November 11 for Veterans Day. Mail service follows holiday hours with lobby open and windows closed. The Record prints on its normal day and mails Wednesday afternoon. Barbara Klingman of Grand Island, a long time 4-H member, is among 31 Nebraska youths winning trips to the National 4-H Club Congress in Chicago for 1965 66. She has earned purple ribbons for 3 State Fair demonstrations and completed projects in foods clothing home living horticulture safety baby sitting and junior leadership.
