The Johnson Chevrolet Garage announces a public showing of 1956 Chevrolets and Oldsmobiles on Friday November 4. The cars will be displayed all day and evening with free coffee and doughnuts in the afternoon. The Johnsons invite everyone in the territory to attend as guests.
Lexington Mall plans replace one of the city’s first brick buildings and its first power plant with a 225000 bushel grain elevator rising 120 feet. Omaha firm to construct in concrete and steel. building began as a mill in 1884 and produced power from 1903.
Eleven men from seven countries Syria Iran Egypt Gold Coast Africa Parkistan Nepal and India will be hosted by the U S Information Agency and the National Grange. They will stay with local Grange families and join in farm home duties marketing and meetings in a cultural exchange reported by Seward Independent.

George A Randall born May 22 1887 in Holt County Nebraska died October 26 1955 in Osceola. He married Loretta Wright June 15 1913 and had four children Darrell Randall George Randall Thelma Dunham Richard Randall. A Nebraska Methodist minister for 43 years he served multiple churches including Leshara Lincoln St James Union Mynard Waverly Havelock Scotia Ravenna Pool Grace Osceola Stromsburg and Duncan. Survivors include wife four children seven grandchildren two sisters Edith Jones Anna Gregory two brothers Arthur Randall Albert Randall. Funeral October 28 at Osceola High School Auditorium with Rev Homer Dickerson and Rev H P Bollinger officiating.
Osceola High School clinched its first conference title since 1941 by defeating Silver Creek 48 to 7 on their home field. Star back Jan Grossnicklaus starred with six touchdowns, five rushing, one receiving, and a kickoff return, as Grossnicklaus and teammate Triba sparked the scoring burst in the opening 27 points.
Duane Johnson announces the QC High School choral concert on Tuesday November 8 at 8 00 p m. The Boys Glee Club Girls Glee Club Mixed Chorus Girls Trio and Girls Sextet headline the program with no admission charged and the public invited to attend.
Henry Galus was chosen to serve a second term as Polk County Farm Bureau president at the October annual meeting held October 18 at the IOOF hall in Osceola. New board members and officers were named, delegates to the state convention selected, and resolutions for the coming year adopted amid entertainment and lunch.
WESLEY CHAPEL WSCS meets Thursday afternoon with Mrs. Gustafson featuring a program and silent auction. REBEKAH LODGE and ENTRE NOUS gather Wednesday November 9 with hosts Mrs. Sedilak and Mrs. Heitzmann. High Prairie Farm Bureau meets November 8 at 8 pm. Maple Leaf Club November 11 with Mrs. Bond. Men's Chorus November 7 at 8 pm. St. Vincent Altar Society November 9 at 8 pm with officer elections.
Miss Willa Gaines of Lincoln was a Sunday afternoon guest of Mrs Edith Heilman and Jo Chastain.
The Polk County Agricultural Society holds its annual meeting at 7:30 p.m. next Wednesday November 9 at the courthouse to elect three members to the Fair Board. Albert Ryan serves as President and Harold Klingman as Secretary.
Matheson Arnold Post 499 will hold a regular session Monday evening November 7 at 8:00 in the Stromsburg hall. Lunch will be served followed by a social hour.
About 65 guests signed the guest book at the home of Mr and Mrs Lou Tschantre on Sunday October 30 to honor their 25th wedding anniversary. Misses Marcie and Tandra Tschantre assisted by aunts hosted. Mrs Bennie King presided at the serving table with a yellow chrysanthemum centerpiece and a white with yellow trim tiered cake decorated by Mrs Henry Schippareil. Supper followed for immediate family and a few guests.
Osceola School District offers free adult classes in agriculture and home economics. Ten sessions begin November 7, meeting Mondays 8 to 10 p m at the High School. Contact Chrysoryce Oole or Jimmy Majors to register.
Mrs. Clair Emmons assumed duties last week at the Extension Office in the courthouse. She fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Miss Kathy Ericson of Stromsburg. Miss Ericson expects to marry in December.
The Closing Committee of merce announces Osceola stores will not open on Friday November 11 to observe Veterans Day. Businesses reopen November 12 as usual, and all area towns will close for the day. Patrons are urged to plan shopping accordingly.
Osceola clinched its Goldenrod Conference title with an undefeated season marking a return to 1941 greatness. Star players include quarterback Roger Wright and end duo, with coach Bob Manley and Kenneth Sipes steering a disciplined lineup. The piece also notes Nebraska’s strong showing and a nostalgia for classic NU power football on Memorial sod.
