Josiah Douglas Hartman born February 19 1857 in Schuyler County Illinois died October 24 1928 at his Osceola Nebraska home aged 71 years 8 months 6 days He moved to Hancock County Illinois at age three later settled in Polk County Nebraska and two years in Colorado He married Nancy Jane Iler January 22 1888 Survived by wife adopted daughter grandson and several siblings He served as Osceola\u2019s first mayor in 1907 was elected Polk County Sheriff 1901 and reelected 1903 and was deputy sheriff at death He belonged to Odd Fellows Mason and Modern Woodmen The funeral was held at home with Rev H Collier and at cemetery by the I O F Interment at Osceola Cemetery

Sunday School Gifts Support Near East Relief Drive

The Sunday School greatly aided the Near East Relief appeal presented by Dr. Vartanian last Sunday with fifteen shares subscribed and one third of the amount paid in cash. Dr. Vartanian praised the Sunday School for its generosity and urged attendance at services including Sunday School at 10 A M and Worship at 11 A M, with evening services and mid week service on Wednesday at 7 30.
