Spirit Of '76 To Lead Osceola Bicentennial Parade
The Spirit of 76 will lead Osceola’s four day Bicentennial celebration opening May 29 with a kite contest and alumni banquet. Events include Memorial Day services led by the American Legion, a town exhibits day, a parade forming at Good Samaritan Center, and a final pageant Memories of Old Glory with a 35 member Spirit of ’76 cast.

Polk County Bicentennial closes with sod house dedication
The 1975 Bicentennial celebration ends with the dedication of a sod house and an 1890 fire bell at the museum grounds on Sunday June 1. A program recognizes residents who lived in sod houses and invites them to share memories. The museum opens for the 1975 season after the event and hosts an ecumenical service at Osceola High School led by Pastor clergy with Colonel Howard Franzen delivering the sermon.

Expanded Wheat Forecast Signals Feeding Rise Across Markets
The Economic Research Service projects a 2.1 billion bushel wheat crop in 1975, up from last year’s 1.8 billion, with a potential shift toward wheat feeding for cattle as prices may align with other feed grains. January March residual use rose to 84 million bushels, boosting expectations for April June feeding. Despite low stocks, total 1975 wheat output could top 2.3 billion and exports may reach 1.2 billion. Carryover by July 1, 1976 could be 393 to 448 million bushels, well above current forecasts but below earlier peaks.

Chamber Finalizes Bicentennial Plans for May 31 BBQ
At a May 19 meeting nine members of the Chamber of Commerce finalized plans for a Bicentennial barbecue supper to be served after the parade on Saturday May 31. They voted to close businesses Memorial Day and to close 9 45 a m to 12 00 noon on Friday May 30 for Bicentennial memorial services. A dozen members helped collect six truckloads of trash on May 14 cleanup day. Scholastic awards went to the two highest ranking senior boys.
