LT&T seeks rate increases for Lincoln telephone service
Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph Company applies for authority to raise rates to generate about 5.5 million dollars in new annual gross revenue, a 10 to 15 percent rise for business and residence lines. The proposal also hikes service connection charges, coin phone prices by 10 cents, and equipment charges while ending some monthly charges. A public hearing is set for July 1 at 9 30 a m in the Public Service Commission office in Lincoln.

Osceola Bicentennial Ends With Community Hymn Service
Osceola marked its Bicentennial with four days of events from May 29 to June 1. Albert Ryan Day honored the 99 year old barber. The Polk County Fair received 1000 from Ak Sar Ben for two buildings and a 500 spruce up grant. A parade, contests, and a pageant celebrated 200 years of American history with participants from nearby towns and states.

Polk County Nebraska Named Bicentennial Community
The National American Revolution Bicentennial Administration designated Polk County Nebraska a National Bicentennial Community. It is the 115th Nebraskan community given this status. Four Polk County towns received Bicentennial flags in August 1974 at the County Fair. The flag presentation to the Polk County American Revolution Bicentennial Committee is set for July 14 before the 8 p.m. rodeo. Bicentennial Day occurs July 16 at the County Fair with additional events planned.

Ryan Hill Invitational Attracts 134 Golfers
Ryan Hill Country Club hosted the sixth annual invitational on Sunday June 1 with 134 golfers registered for an 18 hole men’s tournament starting at 7:00 a.m. Participants hailed from David City Beatrice Lincoln Fullerton Grand Island Hardville Norfolk Dannebrog Seward Bradshaw Bancroft York Columbus Crete Papillion Hastings and Omaha along with Ryan Hill members from Polk County. Dale Roehrs last year’s champion led the Medalist with a 31 on the first nine. Winners spanned five flights with names including Gayle Larson Dale Roehrs Walt Radcliffe Jim Benson Gary Folts Max Quick Ken Pope Harold Osantowski and others as listed across Championship President’s First Second and Third flights. Door prizes went to Eddie Gdowski and Dave Sampson.
