Commencement Exercises Held At Rivoli Theatre

Last Thursday evening at the Rivoli Theatre a crowd attended a commencement event. Prof. W H Rosenlof of the University of Nebraska spoke as music by the Girl's Glee Club featured the program. Awards were given by Supt. W B Thompson to top students including Irma Hastings Irene Kennedy and Frances Hanson with cash prizes from local benefactors.

Community Happenings in Stromsburg Area

Cemetery association meeting set for Friday at 2 PM at the cemetery. Decoration Day services planned for Saturday at 10 AM with Rev. L M Albrecht delivering the address. Green’s Chapel Bible School starts Monday. all are welcome. Various local families hosted and visited relatives, with social gatherings and trips noted. Ruth Bond and Ralph Allison wed at Wayland Church and left for Chicago. Blue View and Pleasant Prairie schools closed for the season with picnics.

Polk Man Dies From Lock Jaw In Polk County

Ivan Moline 32 son of Mrs Charles Moline living west of Polk died at 11 pm Sunday from an unclear illness believed to be lockjaw. He was found in great pain after a light lunch and convulsions paralyzed his upper body before death. Stated infection from a possible rusty nail preceded the illness. Osceola Library Opens Early On Decoration Day

The Osceola Public Library will be open on Decoration Day Saturday from 5 p m to 9 p m only reflecting a special after hours schedule for the holiday.

Nebraska Pasture Improvement Contest Sees High Farmer Turnout

The 1936 pastures contest draws 725 Nebraska farmers, over 300 more than last year, with 14 additional counties. Polk County records 21 entries while Nance County leads with 44 and Richardson trails with 41. An Omaha Chamber of Commerce banquet honors those keeping pasture records, and $1500 will be awarded for top grazing management.

Rural Electrification Plans Move Forward in Iowa Nebraska

The Iowa Nebraska Light and Power Company will start a farm electrification program with lower rates and line extensions as two farms per mile are secured. Cited are better business conditions, rising electricity use, and lower construction costs. Reforms aim to bring refrigeration, radio, lighting, and power to farm homes at competitive prices. Kepner Block Remodeling Adds Front and Two Store Rooms

Raymond Kepner undertakes extensive remodeling of the Kepner Block to install a modern front and create two store rooms. The ground floor entrance will connect directly to the street with separate entrances for each store. The project will enhance the west side of the square. one store will house Kepner’s furniture business and the other will be rented.

Condemnation Court Forms In Stromsburg Case In Osceola

The condemnation court appointed by the supreme court to hear the Stromsburg versus Iowa Nebraska Light Power proceedings met at the Osceola courthouse Monday. Judges Louis Lightner, E. G. Kroger, and Lewis Blackledge formed the panel with Blackledge as chairman. Stromsburg attorneys Jack Stanton and R. A. Haggart attended. Only organizational steps were completed. no evidence was heard and the court adjourned to July 20 at 10 am.

Stromsburg Alumni Honor and Memorial Day Plans

The Stromsburg High School Alumni Association held a reception at the high school with 125 attendees, electing officers and planning a 50th anniversary banquet. The forty-ninth commencement exercises honored 37 seniors. Memorial Day programs by the American Legion are set for Saturday morning at the Methodist Church with invocations, music, and speeches.

Rivoli Theatre To Be Remodeled Soon

Frank Klein of the Rivoli Theatre says the entire venue will undergo remodeling with a new front lobby improved seating and other improvements planned. Work is set to begin within the next few weeks.

Decoration Day Observed in Osceola With Services

Osceola holds Decoration Day on Saturday with a 10 am program at the Rivoli Theatre led by the Osceola American Legion Post. The ceremony includes invocation, readings, Lincoln's Gettysburg Address, and the Star Spangled Banner followed by a cemetery observance. Legion and ex-service members meet at 9:30 am. local businesses close 10 am to 5 pm.

Special Canning Demonstration by Mrs Rosina MaxWell
