Almost two hundred ninety one Polk County pupils will receive eighth grade diplomas at the auditorium this afternoon at 2:45. Lincoln guest speaker A. Wooderson will deliver the commencement address as a program runs through a long list of graduates including Smith, Tad, Peterson, Anderson, Olson, and many others from districts 3 through 72.
The Methodist Church announces a Memorial Service at morning worship next Sunday with the sermon Lest We Forget. War veterans will be special guests. An evening service at 8 o clock offers brief inspiration for the week. Junior League meets Saturdays at 3 PM for youths. A Sunday School session begins at 10 AM. Handel Collier, Minister.
Memorial Day events mark a program at Legion Hall at 1 30 PM with G A R Women’s Relief Corps D A R Spanish War Veterans American Legion and Camp Fire Girls involved. Services at the Auditorium begin at 2 PM followed by cemetery graves decorations by Camp Fire Girls and union memorial at Methodist Church next Sunday at 11 AM with Rev Collier and Legion Quartet providing music.

May 19 marked the close of the school year at OGsceola High with 23 seniors receiving diplomas in the auditorium. Dr Charles Shephard delivered a talk on The Quest For The Beautiful as Miss Berniece Sherer and others provided music and a large crowd attended.
The B W League holds a banquet for York and Aurora Club members at Densmore Coffee Shop on May 26 at 6 o clock. Commencement exercises prevent Colum bus Club members from attending. After the meal, entertainment at Legion Hall includes games Bridge and dancing.
The Happy Hour Society met May 19 with Mrs. Ella Koehler. Eighteen members and fourteen visitors attended and voted to send 500 to flood sufferers. Mrs Coile Graham presented an engaging program on Mother's Day. Hostess team included Mrs. Too ker and Mrs. Hutchison who served lunch. Coorge Buchta and several men from Silver Creek went to Lake Frike for a few days of fishing. Laverne and Fern Dake visited friends in Columbus. Cecil Layton and family were Sunday visitors in the Joe Need home. Mr and Mrs G P Mage had Sunday dinner guests FEE Finery and family and Mrs Mina Buchta. Ethel Snyder spent Wednesday in the Heitzman home. Olaf Youngdais were Gone Bae visitors Saturday. Chas Hastings and wife, teaching at Funk, are visiting in the neighborhood. Ladies Aid met with Mrs G Peace this Wednesday with a goodly number present.

Mike Reisdorf rests with rheumatism near Shelby. John Frerichs of Columbus planting corn. Fred Dunn and Wilt Zimmerman, Wauneta, visited Columbus. Walter Morys shipped hogs with George Englehardt. Julius Nebosis also visited Columbus.

A social meeting is set for May 27 at Mrs Grace McCormick’s home. The club adjourned to reconvene June 2 at Mrs Mary Miller’s home.
Effective Monday May 28 the talking period for trans oceanic telephone service from here to Tingland Scotland or Wales is extended four hours. Local manager Mr Thrasher of the Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph Company says calls across the Atlantic may be made from 5 30 a m to 4 p m each day, a total of ten and one half hours.
