Polk County Baseball League Sets Rules and Schedule

The Polk County Baseball League outlines officers from Osceola Stromsburg Shelby and members from all four towns. It mandates monthly director meetings nine inning games starting 5 30 pm and a twelve week season with indemnity rules on payments and umpire authority and admission fees.

Kiner Swanson Receives Carload of Chevrolets in Week

In Stromsburg Kiner Swanson received another carload of Chevrolets described as hot tamales by Kelly. Shelby High baseball opens season with 12 10 loss to Ulysses

Shelby high school opened the season with a 12 to 10 defeat at Ulysses last Friday. On Monday Shelby defeated Polk 5 to 0. The issue notes many local movements including visits to Lincoln Columbus and Hastings, a baccalaureate service, and a May 26 eighth grade graduation in Osceola.

Juniors Host Colorful Senior Banquet of 1927

The Senior class of 1927 enjoyed a rainbow themed banquet arranged by the Juniors on May 16. Colorful bow decorations, pansy place cards, a multi course menu, and an orchestra from Stromsburg highlighted the evening. Entertainment included Maypole and balloon dances, a rainbow set piece, trombone solo, and prophecies, ending with the High School Song.

Golden Rod Club Selects Picnic Plans and Camp Delegates

The Golden Rod Club met at Mrs Leonard Weiseman's home on Thursday May 12 with eight members eight visitors and children present. They decided to hold the June annual picnic and chose Mrs Gunnard Peterson and Mrs Weiseman to attend the Mother's Vacation Camp at Seward in June. A delicious lunch was served by the hostess.

Local Families Visit Wm Dake Home In Neighborly Exchange

Columbus residents Mr and Mrs Louis Lohr and daughter Betty visited the Wm Dake home. The Dake house hosted several guests including Mr and Mrs Tom Meacham and the VanAlstine and Lohr families. Others shared weekend visits with relatives in Central City Polk Fullerton and Wyoming.

Baccalaureate Exercises Held at Methodist Church

On Sunday evening May 15 the Baccalaureate Exercises took place at the Methodist Church. Thirty four graduates filled reserved rows at the front and many friends attended. The program included processional, prayers, songs by the Girls O. H. S. Glee Club, solos by Alda Kropach, scripture reading by Reuben Kron, sermon by Reuben Kron, and benediction by Rev. Collier.

Senior Class Presents Are You A Mason at Auditorium

Members of the Senior Class staged a clever and well received performance of the farce Are You A Mason at the Auditorium last Thursday. The cast included Quentin Query and Lenoart Fellows as deceivers, Glen Yeltman as the helpful friend, Miss Huston as the wife, and Miss Newcomer as the harping mother in law. The Girls Glee Club made its Osceola debut and won third at St Paul, with high quality numbers between acts.

Victor High to Hold First Graduation in May

Eighth grade exams concluded in Victor with fewer pupils than prior years. Ninth and tenth grades will sit for semester exams Wednesday and Thursday. The first Victor High School graduation is scheduled for Wednesday May 25 at 8 p m at the school house, with a program including processional, invocations, solos, class history and prophecies, an address by A K Williams, and a benediction. Everyone is invited. On the Valley notes cover community dinners, visits, and family gatherings among local residents and nearby towns, including birthdays, school matters, and social events.

The Community Club of Osceola invites every family to a May 26 picnic at Howland's tourist park. Event includes free coffee, boating, and park facilities. Mr Israel and his band will provide music. bring cups sugar and cream for a grand basket supper gathering.

Marguerite Johnson visited Ray mond Scholz and Stoner School Monday. Mr and Mrs Frank Adkisson arrived Saturday evening to visit at the home of Harry Hayhurst's parents, returning to Albion Nebraska Sunday. The Woman's Foreign Missionary Society met at Mrs William Hope's home with good attendance. Regular church services next Sunday morning. Marion Richards entertained many of her pupils Monday evening.

Business Woman's League Plans Banquet at Presbyterian Church

A special meeting of the Business Woman's League set plans for the League Banquet at the Presbyterian Church Tuesday evening May 26 at 6 o'clock. Aurora York and Columbus league members and State President Miss Wicham from Beatrice were invited. About 150 members expected, Osceola to present a special entertainment after the banquet, each club to perform a stunt, followed by Rook and dancing.

Harmony Society and Missionary Meetings at St Paul Church

The Harmony Society and Women’s Missionary Society will meet at Miss Thelma Johnson’s Friday. Catechumens meet Saturday at 10:00. Sunday services follow Easter with 10:00 Sunday School 11:00 English Morning Service “Perseverance in Prayer” and 8:00 Swedish Service “How we may be healed.” Choir rehearses Tuesday. Luther League program Friday 8:00 at Mrs Monson’s home with Joe Petersons assisting.
