Legion Auxiliary to Dedicate Monument at Cemetery
Following Memorial Day services at the Muse theatre the Legion Auxiliary will dedicate a six foot monument to the Unknown Soldier at the cemetery. Funds raised by Auxiliary members paid for the monument and the cemetery association donated two lots for permanent placement.

Wind and Rain Visit Polk County
Polk County was hit by a heavy rain and strong winds Sunday night causing damage across the county. Windmills toppled and barn roofs were damaged, with rainfall aiding crops. Osceola saw half to over an inch, Shelby over an inch, and areas south of Polk nearly two inches. The 1940 wheat allotments for about 1850 farms are being prepared by the Agricultural Conservation Office, with farmers seeking allotments for fields with no wheat planted in 1936 37 or 38 urged to apply in writing.

With dry weather persisting Polk County farmers rely on crop insurance. ACP reports 240 loss claims filed with 140 adjustments covering 1100 acres. Six farmers had complete losses and will receive full insured amounts. Final harvest adjustments pending yields. There are 465 policies carried on 1938 wheat.
