Osceola City to Bid at Tax Sales to Stop Delinquents
Osceola officials plan to bid on future tax sales to prevent owners from buying back parcels at a fraction of taxes due. Mayor Pratt led most purchases at a recent sale as several properties with over three years unpaid are slated for foreclosure. The city aims to place foreclosed property in taxpayers hands.

Two Corn Tests Planted In Polk County Last Week
County Agricultural Agent Peterson reports two of six corn tests were planted last week. May 10 at Homer Brigham farm Shelby holds 25 varieties, May 11 at Willard Lindburg farm Polk has 22 varieties. Four tests remain to be planted this week across Osceola and Stromsburg area farms with additional barley oats soybean plots and grass trials in the same fields.

A four department program opens May 29 at the Methodist Church running through June 9. Classes meet from 9 00 to 11 00 and 11 30 A M depending on department. Children of the community may attend with parental consent. Interdenominational textbooks are used. Further notices come next week.

Former Polk County Resident Dies in Colorado
Mrs. Jack Hottell, 23, of Walden Colorado, passed away Sunday evening May 14. Funeral services were held at United Brethren Church in Shelby on Wednesday with interment in Shelby Cemetery. She was born in Shelby, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Ball, and leaves a husband a son and her parents.

Miss Virginia Emmons daughter of Roy and Mrs Emmons of near Osceola and Russell Shenk son of Ford and Mrs Shenk of near Clarks were married at the Presbyterian Church in Central City by Barton on Monday May 15 1939 in the presence of close families. The bride wore satin striped chiffon and is a Clarks high school graduate class of 1936 who has taught in Hamilton and Polk counties. The groom wore a green suit and has farmed in recent years. The couple left for an extended wedding trip to Idaho after the ceremony.

Robert Taddiken, Polk County Agricultural Conservation chairman, announced that over 79.7 percent of cropland will be farmed under the national 1939 program this year. About 90 percent of county farmers signed farm plans, up from 40 percent last year, with 1663 of 1850 ownerships signing.

Junior Bulldogs Take Second in Stromsburg Track Meet
The Junior Bulldogs finished second at Stromsburg on Thursday May 11 with top performers Byers Parks Zedicher Snodgrass Magnuson and Carter. Osceola would have won the relay but two runners dropped the baton allowing Benedict to edge ahead. six records fell led by Sam Byers who set marks in broad jump 50 yard dash and 100 yard dash. Wayne Parks set a new high jump record at 4 ft 8 in with other placers including Zedicher Magnuson and Carter.
