Polk County Old Times Days Highlight Osceola Events

Osceola gears up for Old Times Day with a Thursday parade and parade prizes of 25, 15, and 10 dollars. A teen dance, frontier fashions, a free street square dance, and a camper, silk patchwork afghan and pony prizes are planned. The community play includes Osceola history and old-time pictures.

QHS Awards Highlight Recognition Night Highlights

May 16 winners included Victor Sterup math award for leading Osceola students in national contest. Patricia Gullberg Dan Sterup John Sedlak received Ellis Lodge York awards. Danforth Award went to Jane Anderson Dan Sterup for citizenship loyalty health scholarship sportsmanship. Several other honors listed with many local groups involved. Births and community notices noted including Walford birth at Annie Jeffrey Hospital and Old Times Day ballot invitation.

Kin of Late Gov Mickey to Speak at Osceola Church

Dr David H Mickey Nebraska Wesleyan University history professor and grandson of Osceola Governor J H Mickey will speak at the First Methodist Church Osceola next Sunday morning. He will discuss The Heritage is good and attend an open house at the old Mickey Mansion with Polk County Historical Society museum. Dale Watts son of Ralph Watts is home on a 30 day convalescent leave from the naval hospital in Philadelphia after a February car accident at Lakehurst New Jersey.

Osceola's Gregg Urban takes runner-up in state shot put

Osceola high school senior Gregg Urban earned second place in class C shot put at the state meet held in Kearney. Urban threw 53 feet 6 1 4 inches, surpassing his OHS record by a foot and trailing winner Dennis Duff of Bertrand at 55 feet 4 1 4 inches.

Community planning sessions and annual feed announced

Lions club and Chamber of Commerce met for Old Times Days planning. An annual firemen old timers feed is set for Friday May 26 at 6 30 in City Hall. Glen Krohn was surprised with a ceramic typewriter ashtray before leaving for University of Nebraska. Boy Scout Troop 162 helped plant 500 multiflora roses at Polk County Wildlife Club grounds. Osceola Girl Scouts attend Day Camp June 5 to 9 at Meister's pasture with director Mrs Roy Trotter. Final six weeks honor rolls listed for OHS. Bernt death reported. memorial day services planned at Swede Home cemetery. Army Warrant Officer Kenneth O Knight assigned near Cam Ranh Bay Vietnam. Salvation Army Fund Drive Seeks Polk County Goals

The Salvation Army launches its annual Polk county fund drive led by Dr. H. S. Eklund with a $640 county goal. Osceola's share is $190. Committeemen include Eklund, D. R. Byers, and Martin E. Roberts. Byers acts as treasurer. Volunteers will contact firms and residents.
