Ak Sar Ben names Mrs Mildred Flodman of Stromsburg a Good Neighbor Award recipient for leading the Polk County Museum project. The dispatch notes Nebraskans honored include 46 total recipients for unselfish neighborly deeds.

About 250 people attended the opening of the Polk County Historical Museum with visitors from California Texas and Pennsylvania. Mrs. Curtis Flodman welcomed guests and presided as MC while Dr David Mickey Lincoln grandson of the late Gov Mickey spoke and Albert Ryan cut the ribbon. The museum displays include rooms reproducing 1900 era life and 1930 era hospital, a library, a country school and store. Admission is by donation and 25 cents for children under 12.
Community calendar lists events from June 1 to June 8 including Old Times Day parade and club meetings. Social items note the Orley Conkling family trip to Crete for Elizabeth Conkling’s commencement and Memorial Day visits by relatives from Omaha and Rising City to Crete and the Dunn and Ruff families in Omaha and Rising City.
The city Little League season opens Tuesday June 6 at 6 p.m. Games run Tuesdays and Fridays with sponsors Sigler Western Power and Gas Co The Record and First National Bank. Local churches provide support donations welcomed. Osceola hosts five day Old Times Celebration as heavy spring rainfall arrives amid festivities. The Polk County Museum grand opening drew a large crowd at the Mickey mansion and the OHS alumni banquet and dance attracted about 470 graduates, straining catering.
Terms of three Jones Creek Conservancy District directors Gerald Bryan Walter Jones and Bill Wyman have expired an election will be held June 28 to fill the vacancies. Petitions nominating candidates may be obtained from the Soil and Water Conservation District office in Osceola and require ten resident taxpayer signatures due by June 15.
