A total of 494 500 dollars in federal land bank and Land Bank Commission loans were made in Polk County Nebraska from June 1 1933 to May 1 1934 per Farm Credit Administration reports. About 417 500 dollars was used to refinance debt, reducing interest and sometimes debt levels. Debts repaid included 39 800 to banks 66 900 to insurers 5 600 in taxes 4 300 to merchants and 243 800 to others.

Mrs. C. G. Ekstrom Dies at 63 in Osceola
Mrs. C G Ekstrom born Alice Lindeblade in Henry County Illinois in 1870 died May 18 after a brief illness at 63. Her family moved to Nebraska in 1871 and Osceola mourns her passing after a life of faith and service with the Lutheran church. She leaves husband G G Ekstrom four children and four grandchildren with several siblings and many relatives. Funeral services were held at home and church with Pastor Paul Melin and a church choir offering hymns and prayers.

Billy Butz son of F T Butz spent a day and night with an injury to his foot dressed. Bobby Bryan son of Guildford Bryan had his tonsils removed by Dr Schroeder.

May Plant Corn In Wheat Ground Under Hog Funds
Lincoln Monday the Corn-Hog secretary announced that corn may be grown for fodder on any acres under corn-hog contracts except contracted acres. Wheat may be planted to corn without breach, and wheat may be pastured or cut for hay. Contracted or idle acres must not be harvested in 1934. Additional corn beyond contracted acres will be designated for fodder and cut for feed on the farm.
