A large crowd attended last Sunday’s baccalaureate service at the Methodist Church despite heavy rain. Three churches joined for the event with Rev. W. H. Wright delivering the sermon. High school girls’ glee club performed three numbers including Thanks Be To God. Rev. C. A. Sward and Rev. Paul Melin assisted with invocation scripture and benediction. A separate commencement tonight at the Rivoli Theatre features Judge Bayard H. Paine of Lincoln as speaker.
The Junior Senior banquet was held Friday at the high school gym with a flower garden decor. Freshman helpers served a three course menu while a program featured Clayton Fredrickson, Bess Shelmadine, Marilyn Brown, Neela Deay, John Irland and others.

Miss Margaret Lucas of Silver Creek Nebraska, a University of Nebraska junior, has been elected to the Mu Gamma Chapter of Mu Phi Epsilon National Honorary musical sorority for her scholarship and musical ability. She studied piano with Prof. Herbert Schmidt and played cello in multiple university ensembles. She majors in music with minors in English and science and resides in Raymond Hall.
Mrs Ed Sam Johnson was discharged from Osceola Hospital to home northwest of Osceola after a week as a medical patient under Dr Harley Ekland. Reuben Berglund entered the hospital yesterday and will have an operation today by Dr R L Schroeder. Mrs Everett Powell underwent an appendicitis operation Sunday evening, performed by Dr R L Schroeder assisted by Dr F G Snyder of York.

Lester C. Phillips of Denver died suddenly in a Scottsbluff restaurant last Wednesday while en route to Osceola to join sisters Mrs J W Davis and Mrs Ettan Leonard. Born January 28 1882 in Cincinnati he married Emma Sandberg in Thurston Nebraska August 20 1902. He leaves wife two daughters Mrs Evelyn Moynahan and Mrs Zelda Kirby two grandchildren two sisters and was buried at Utica after funeral in Osceola conducted by Rev W H Wright.
