Polk residents report moving of belongings into the Carlson house and housing changes as Albin Lindquist’s former home is vacated. Numerous local people attend visits, travel to nearby towns, attend funerals, and note weather-related damage claims. Families vacation, relocate, and visit relatives in nearby towns including Kearney and Fremont while others welcome a baby girl born to Dr. Arthur Peterson and Mrs. Peterson.
In Central City and nearby areas District No. 62 families gathered for Mother's Day activities. Irvin Forss had a 10th birthday celebration hosted by Adolph Forss, with Harold Johnson Ellen Anderson and Will Fjell families attending. Other visits included the John Fintel family at Walter Bush and Ernest Eschler’s dinner at James Lawthers. The O D D Club was hosted by Budd Vincent.
The Osceola Public Schools near term end with events from May 17 Junior-Senior Banquet to May 24 closing. May 19 Baccalaureate at M E Church features Rev. C A Sward and Rev. Melin, with arensky and bortniansky pieces. Commencement May 23 at Rivoli Theatre includes Judge Bayard H Paine address and diplomas.
An electrical storm late Friday night struck Clyde Willits’s Polk home, nearly wrecking it. The chimney tore from the house, roof and siding damaged, plaster knocked from walls, but all occupants including children sleeping on the second floor escaped injury.
County allotment committeemen agricultural agents and state board of review representatives are busy establishing corn and hog bases for individuals who signed up additional land or are signing a contract for the first time this year. Contracts for signers who enrolled again this year will be finished and sent to Washington within weeks as efforts aim to complete the majority by corn planting time.
Marjorie Walker of Ozceola High School earned a Regents Scholarship at the University of Nebraska after competing with about 25 000 students. Daughter of Mr and Mrs Walker of Bassett Nebraska she has lived with her aunt Mrs Dahlberg and graduates at sixteen as youngest in her class. She plans to attend the State University next year.
Mrs. August W. Johnson was dismissed after appendicitis surgery at Osceola Hospital and returned home southeast of Osceola. Mrs. D. W. Adair came home Saturday after an operation at the same hospital three weeks prior. John Buchta entered Osceola Hospital yesterday for minor surgery under Dr. R. L. Schroeder. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Huggler announce the birth of a son, Charles Fredrick, at Osceola Hospital on Tuesday May 14.
Mrs. N O Freeman of Stromsburg learns of her brother Wilfred Rickel's death at North Platte on Sunday at about age 42. Funeral attended by N O Freeman and son Julian. surviving siblings include Otto Rickel, Harry Rickel, and several sisters. The week also notes births, visits, and local events including Senior Night at Stromsburg High School and D A R meeting details.
The Senior Class presented A Hole-in-One a three act play at the Rivoli Theatre on Tuesday. J Carl Bryant sponsor wrote and directed the piece the first school show with both instructor and students as playwrights. The cast included Lowell Hanson Warren Johnson Allen Scholz Jane Harding Kathryn Klein and Frances Pearson among others with a locker room country club setting and a post show dance party.
Fur coat owners are advised to have their fur cleaned thoroughly before packing away for the summer. Blanche Elwood can be contacted at phone 160 for cleaning arrangements.
Polk county wheat producers are invited to vote on May 18 between noon and 9 PM at multiple polling places including Ball School House Canada Precinct City Hall Shelby Valley Precinct No 5 School House Swedehome hall Viking Theatre Stromsburg Osceola Courthouse and Fairview to decide on future market adjustments under AAA proposals. The community committeemen will run polling sites and non signers may still receive a satisfactory wheat base under the 1936 program. Results will be reported next week.
The Osceola Women's Club held its spring party at the Lutheran church parlors on Monday. Mrs. Dewey Sigler presided over a program featuring a piano duet by Mrs. Kenneth Miller and Miss Marjorie Dunn, a Junior Club play "Lost Women," and musical readings by Miss Olive McBeth with Miss Ruth Miller at the piano. The Music Department presented a seven number cantata "May, the Maiden." Mrs. W. O. Fudge was elected president for the coming year, announced by Mrs. Sigler amid applause.
Overnight guest Miss Virginia Bernt stayed at the Albert A Gabriel home near Shelby. Roy Grossnicklaus hosted a birthday party at Tarner. A Harmony Club meeting at Eller's Hall concluded with lunch. A dance on May 21 at Eller's Hall benefits St Andrews Church with the Rhythm Aces.

Mrs Hansen visits Grand Island. Sacred Heart church observes Mothers Day with service and breakfast for about fifty. Mrs Russell Sawyer and baby visit from Curtis before joining husband in Kearney. Miss Sophia Lux and Elmer Rasp families visit Lincoln. Leibees depart Shelby for New York trip and daughter's wedding in June. Nell and Robert Cator head to Denver to see ill uncle. D H Bull hospitalized after heart attack. Mrs Abbie Wood returns from Wyoming visit.
Nebraskan wheat growers vote this month on a proposed new adjustment contract to replace the current program. The article notes average benefit payments around 12.75 to 13.50 per acre per year in various counties and that many farmers used the payments for crop insurance and living expenses during the drought. County leader W A Carnine suggests the next contract will aim to raise farm income, reach parity price levels, and provide returns from retired land.
The Home Study Club met at the McBeth school house with eleven members and one visitor. They discussed the canning contest and completed plans for the achievement day program moved to Friday evening. The program featured community singing led by Mrs. Harry Brazee, several musical numbers and playlets, followed by lunch for about sixty guests.
