Osceola to Host 4 Day Shooting Event May 29 to June 1

Osceola hosts a four day state rifle and pistol tournament May 29 through June 1 with Nebraska and neighboring states represented. Small bore matches at 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on May 31 and June 1 at the Osceola Rifle Range. NRA rules apply. Don Hammer and Grant Sandborn among officials. Registration $5.50 per match or $10 for both.

Osceola High School Alumni Banquet Set for May 29

The 22nd annual Osceola High School Alumni Association banquet will be held in the High School Auditorium on Thursday evening May 29. Classes ending in nine years 1909 1919 1929 1939 1949 and 1959 will attend with the Class of 1969 welcomed. Dinner served by St Vincent Catholic Church women. Toast master Elton Berck Nebraska Farmers Union president. Russell Snugg OHS coach from the mid-1930s to attend. A dance with music by Duffy Belorad. Current officers listed. more on page 4.

Old Times Day in Osceola Weekend Celebration Planned

Osceola’s sixth Old Times Day on Saturday May 31 features a 2:00 p.m. parade with entries meeting at Good Samaritan Village and led by Merv Stromberg and Stan VanHoosen. Activities include carnival rides booths and concessions on The Square an afternoon program by the American Legion Double Quartet and OHS Bulldog Band a Hobby and Art Show a Polk County Museum open house bingo pancake feed and a State Rifle Pistol match. Entitlements include drawings by Goldenrod Saddle Club ham sales by Valley View Feeders 4‑H Club and an evening program emceed by Dick Merrick with a pantomime Osceola Hillbilly Band and other acts. Residents urged to wear centennial costumes and bring folding chairs.

Antique flea market at Old Times Day attracts collectors

Polk County Historical Society sponsors an Antique Flea Market after the 2:00 parade on Old Times Day. Proceeds go to the County Historical Society. items can be donated at The Record Office weekdays 9 to 5 until the 31st.
